The GOP is in crack up mode right now. In the past year we have witnessed Mitt Romney being booed in Utah, we have witnessed him publicly castigating his niece, Ronna Romney McDaniel, for depicting the Capitol riot as “legitimate political discourse” and now we see something more incredible still: we see Liz Cheney having the fight of her life to hang onto her House seat in deep red Wyoming.

Donald Trump won the state of Wyoming by 70 points in 2020, which is the highest percentage that he won any state by. However, factor in the statistic that the entire state has a population about the size of three L.A. suburbs and it’s not quite so horrifying. And even Cheney refers to these people as “the crazies” and says she can’t change their minds. New York Times:

Private polling in January found just 31 percent of Wyoming Republican primary voters had a favorable view of Ms. Cheney, compared to 60 percent who saw her unfavorably. More than half the state’s Republican primary electorate described themselves as strong supporters of Mr. Trump who would not vote for a candidate he opposes.

The state Republican Party chairman, Frank Eathorne, announced at a meeting in November that Mr. Trump plans to hold a rally in Wyoming with Ms. Hageman on May 28, according to WyoFile, a political news website in Wyoming. Mr. Eathorne did not respond to messages, nor did Mr. Trump’s spokeswoman.

And this woman, Harriet Hageman, that Trump is endorsing is a real piece of work. Buried forever is the fact that she was once an anti-Trumper herself. Hageman is the new Lindsey Graham. She denounced Trump as “racist and xenophobic” according to CNN’s KFile and now she’s his purse poodle, licking his hand.

Ms. Hageman said in an interview that she could not name any issue on which she differs from the former president. And she said that Ms. Cheney’s break with Mr. Trump has left her incapable of being an effective advocate for Wyoming in Washington.

“She’s using her seat as Wyoming’s representative to pursue her own agenda,” Ms. Hageman said. “That’s not our agenda. We don’t agree with what Liz Cheney is doing.

Ms. Hageman said she didn’t know who the legitimate winner of the 2020 election was (“I don’t know the answer”) and couldn’t say if former Vice President Mike Pence had the authority to block congressional certification of President Biden’s election (“I’m not an elections attorney”).

“I wasn’t there on Jan. 6,” she said. “I can’t tell you everything Pence did or didn’t do. What you need to understand is that, for most people out in the real world, none of us really care that much about what happened on Jan. 6.” [emphasis mine]

People in the real world don’t care what happened January 6. So that means that people in the real world are comfortable sweeping it all under the rug? Sure glad I don’t live in Harriet Hageman’s real world.

The heated Trump antagonism and Ms. Cheney’s light public schedule — she skipped the state fair and has appeared at just one in-person Wyoming event between Veterans Day and the press association gathering, according to a calendar provided by her office — has prompted an open discussion in the state about the possibility that she might abandon her seat and instead mount a run for the White House in 2024.

Bill Sniffin, a longtime Wyoming newspaper executive who is now the publisher of the news website Cowboy State Daily, said he’s bet five cigars that Ms. Cheney will eventually drop out of the House contest.

Cheney has said she will be on the ballot in August and she ignored the 2024 primary against Trump question, as well she should because Trump could be under indictment or worse by then.

Hageman, for her part, has apparently not absorbed the lesson that everything Trump touches dies and she thinks she’ll make out okay by clutching his coattails.

  1. “ MS. HAGEMAN SAID IN AN INTERVIEW THAT SHE COULD NOT NAME ANY ISSUE ON WHICH SHE DIFFERS FROM THE FORMER PRESIDENT”

……no too hard to do as he , as far as I can tell, has no positions on anything. He is a sniveling mouth in a suit……nothing more.

  2. Poor Sargent Schultz from Hogan’s Heros. Funny how the gop is full of brainless wimps, & when asked about ANYTHING REAL, they sing Schultz’s refrain: “I KNOW NOTHING”. Of course, in fairness to the sarge, he knew a lot and knew the best defense against his own nazi bosses was to profess ignorance. These buffoons are telling the only thing about them that is true, i.e., they know nothing. And doggonit, they’re damn proud of it! Cue up the banjo from Deliverance. The ones that do know something, run like bitches. Right? Kevin? Kevin? KEVIN!!!!!

  3. Darth Vader’s progeny Liz is not going to drop out of the primary. If Wyoming doesn’t have a sore loser law, she may even pull a Murkowski and do a write-in campaign.

    • I think if she loses the primary she’ll run as an Independent. She might be at 30% now but might improve some after the hearings and some back there, especially with the trickle of other established old-school types starting to speak up even if she loses the primary I’ll bet she’s at least at 40% of the vote. Running as an Independent, GOP voters in her state will get faced with a choice – risk losing the seat to a (horrors!) Democrat or going with Cheney and there are probably Democrats who might cross over just as a fuck you to Republicans if their own candidate has polling numbers at thirty percent or below. It sure will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

      • The last time that a Democrat (anyone not running under the GOP banner, for that matter) really cracked the 30% mark (I’m not counting the “If you round up the decimals to the next highest number, you get 30%” cases although those have happened in the last House elections) was way back in 2008 when Democrat Gary Trauner pulled in 42.9% of the vote against GOPer Cynthia Lummis in an open race (he strongly outperformed Obama’s 32.54% margin even as the House vote was just 97.8% of the presidential vote; Trauner got nearly 24,000 more votes than Obama received).

Cheney’s first race, in 2016, saw her Democratic opponent pull in 29.97% of the vote. So, Democrats do have a moderately strong presence in the state and could possibly help Liz keep her seat. According to Ballotpedia, Wyoming has an “open primary” system so Democrats could always vote in the GOP primary (according to both Wiki and Ballotpedia, there’s no Democrat who’s currently announced a run for the seat). Of course, you can just imagine the (faux) outrage coming from Trumpers if it turned out that Cheney retained her seat because of crossover Democratic voters (even as GOP pundits were clamoring for GOP voters to vote in “open” Democratic primaries in 2008 and 2016 and even in 2020).

      • I agree, there is still time for landslide changes in opinions and results, BUT the reason Ms. Cheney is NOT visibly striking out for any future positions, has to be her deep involvement with the 01/06 committee …

Which, in my mind HAS to include reams of evidence by now, on several layers, of course, both Fed and States are armed with sharpened finger nails, ready to pounce on the whole Trump camp … evidence will include major players in the GOP as well, the smoke trails of their falling aircraft will form dark clouds over their broken party in DC … so sad, and at once, WONDERFUL !!

  4. Wyoming is not a state of intellectuals. Calling 60% of the ‘pube base “the crazies” is still not a great move. Even idiots can be, occasionally, insulted.

    • End times? When the good old boys stop stockpiling weapons & voluntarily turn them in, then u might be right. Having camped all around Wyoming, in grizzly country, they have a reason to be armed, but no need to act like small armies. Liz is clearly not one to tuck tail & run, & frankly if she stays around long enough to torpedo frump, I don’t care. Wyoming is never going blue. What really is scary is, if she wins in the TV coverage of these traitors, she may be a bigger problem come 2024. She’s a much smarter danger. Remember, she voted 93% of the time with frump. She may have her sights on the big enchilada.

  5. As was true of Obi-wan Kenobi, if these fools strike Liz Cheney, she’ll only emerge stronger. I seriously doubt that she is sweating any polls at this point. Evil Carrie Fisher has a plan and will enact it shortly.

    • It worrisome & will be more so if SHE emerges as the savior of democracy instead of the democrats. She has that killer look amongst all those snowflakes.

      • Finally a proposition we can somehat agree upon, as it is more than a little worrying. I do dispute how she’s any kind of savior of democracy, though. Still, when you consider the evidence, she’s the one I’d say is going to be the future leader of American conservatism. THEY’RE snowflakes but she’s a killing frost.

  6. I can’t believe you people it is truly wrong to treat her like that for telling the truth I could have understood in the beginning because there was no proof but all the proof they have now and letting you know public you still want to get rid of her for telling truth God said the truth shall set you free you just keep doing your job Liz because God got you and Kissinger watch how God change things I claim it in Jesus name Amen
