This is a bit precipitous because the votes have not all yet been tallied. But as stated yesterday, the Nevada senate race is the linchpin defining control of the Senate — at least for now. Laxalt’s choices are wait and see the final tally of the votes, then assess at that time whether a recount is mandated. Or, simply concede defeat, but it doesn’t look like that option is very popular. One takeaway here is that if Laxalt is even talking this way, then he’s done the math too, and he knows he’s toast.

As you read earlier here, Lindsey Graham has raised the specter of fraud in Nevada, with zero reason to do so, other than that he wants to stir the MAGA election denying pot.

Blake Masters can hardly scream “recount” when he’s five points behind, but the day is young. Meanwhile, here is what Adam Laxalt says, at least according to The Daily Mail:

  • Inside his campaign, staffers are preparing for defeat, a person currently advising it who is familiar with internal deliberations told DailyMail.com

  • There is allegedly internal ‘finger pointing’ over who is to blame

  • It’s yet another fracture between establishment Republicans and Trump’s GOP

  • Laxalt is also thinking about raising doubts about Clark County’s vote tallies, DailyMail.com’s source said.

More will be revealed. Meanwhile, votes are being counted, everything that can be done is being done.  The article goes on to say, ‘There is an internal discussion right now on whether or not to ask for a statewide recount,’ the person said. ‘And that would obviously entail fundraising…so they are working at identifying fundraisers.’ Laxalt might want to seriously ponder the wisdom of this. He’s lost before and to raise holy hell over this loss, given the changing political climate right now, away from MAGA insanity, he might want to consider what his best move for a political future is.

If he commits to Trump election denialism, that will pretty much seal his identity. If he graciously concedes, then he can live to fight another day.

Just another spasm in the death throes of the Republican party as Election 2022 does them in.
