The era of Trump has augured in a new kind of Republican, rude, crude, in your face, straight off the stage of Jerry Springer. Springer was a visionary. He said, back in 2016, “Hillary Clinton belongs in the White House, Donald Trump belongs on my show.”
Here is Donnie Palmer and cohorts, outside of Ayanna Presley’s rally and it got wild. Palmer is Pressley’s GOP opponent.
Officers with Somerville police responded to a report of a fight behind the Somerville Theatre on Saturday, where a verbal argument between two people attending a demonstration with U.S. House candidate Donnie Palmer and four men turned physical, according to the department.
The demonstration was outside the Somerville Theatre, where an event was being held by Representative Ayanna Pressley and other members of the Squad. Palmer had apparently planned to peacefully protest the death of Cayler Ellingson in North Dakota, according to the Massachusetts Republican Party.
At least one person was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay, according to police. Two men, who police have identified as Foster Starkes of Cambridge and Andwain Coleman of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, were taken into custody for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, Somerville PD said.
And of course, “radical progressives” are blamed. What else? Raw Story:
“Violence is never the answer, but it seems to be the first resort for radical progressives whenever they seek to silence Black Republicans,” Palmer, who is Black, said in a statement following the fight.
In a statement, Pressley’s campaign said her people were not involved in the fight.
“During the community celebration on Saturday in Somerville, event security was made aware of an altercation that took place in the Davis Square area,” the statement said. “This altercation did not involve event security or anyone associated with the community celebration, and was handled by the Somerville Police Department.”
I’m sure we’ll hear more about this. This is a victim card, begging to be played.
Above and beyond that, this is no way to settle a political dispute. We need to settle those things at the ballot box, not with fists in the street. Unfortunately, this is where we are.

Palmer, in a statement released by the Massachusetts Republican Party Sunday afternoon, said “radical progressives” are resorting to violence to silence Black Republicans who “dare to ‘step out of line’ and question their far-left agenda.”
Palmer, who is Black, said those who attacked his group had to be stopped before they hurt bystanders, “so I obliged.”
