War Between Trump and Guiliani, and Other Revelations from the Inside.

Trump is “in total meltdown.” This comes from an aide inside the White House.

“Extremely frustrated.” Says a Republican Senator.

Jared Kushner described Trump’s mood over the weekend as “rip-shit,” whatever the hell that means, evidently it isn’t good.

Why is Trump all of a sudden so angry? It is not like anything particularly new has cropped up. Well, according to a new report in Vanity Fair, it is a combination of Mueller honing in on the actions of Donald Junior, and the perceived disloyalty of White House counsel Don McGhan, who I, personally, like more with each passing day:

In recent weeks, Donald Trump has privately expressed doubts about White House lawyer Don McGahn’s loyalty. Trump has vented to aides that McGahn doesn’t support the House Freedom Caucus’s quixotic campaign to impeach Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein—a bank shot that would leave Robert Mueller unprotected. McGahn has also clashed with Trump’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, whom one Republican said McGahn “hates with the intensity of 1,000 burning suns.” There has been talk of Trump replacing McGahn with his outside lawyer Emmet Flood.

McGhan doesn’t support the Freedom Caucus’s effort to “impeach Rosenstein” because there is not a single chance in hell it will ever succeed, indeed it would likely backfire. Moreover, though McGhan owes the Office of the President loyalty as White House counsel, he owes Donald Trump no loyalty at all if Trump is attempting to use McGhan to further a criminal conspiracy. The fact that McGhan hates Rudy Giuliani with the intensity of a thousand burning suns simply means that he’s a rather normal person, because Rudy is not only the least likable person in this saga not named Trump, but also doing the most to put the White House staff in legal jeopardy.

Why Emmet Flood would take on the hassle of balancing duties as a public servant with a president who sees you as his personal attorney is beyond me – that and there would be quite the pay cut involved. It is a prestigious position, though. But, I doubt Emmett Flood is looking for prestige at this point.

Here is where it really gets entertaining. Trump is also furious with Giulianii. This is just too good to actually be true, yet here it is. Trump blames Giuliani for the entire Russian investigation:

Trump’s frustration with Sessions has even caused him to turn on Giuliani. Over the weekend, Trump blamed Giuliani for the entire Russia probe. According to a person to whom the conversation was described, Trump loudly said to his lawyer: “It’s your fault! I offered you attorney general, but you insisted on being secretary of state. Had I picked you none of this would be happening.” (The White House declined to comment.)

Un-be-fking-leave-able.

Yes, had Giuliani simply taken the Attorney General job, Rudy would have told the truth about all his Russian interactions within the campaign, but wouldn’t have recused himself from the investigation, and thereby saved Trump by firing Robert Mueller.

I suppose it never occurred to Trump that he might bear some of the blame by running for president as a Russian puppet in the first place. Though, to be fair, that is a decision that I do not believe for a second that he had a choice to run or not, at least not if he wanted to continue to enjoy his extravagant lifestyle and free-flowing rubles.

I do sort of understand his worry as a father that his son is now caught up in all this:

Another theory for what’s motivating Trump’s increasingly unhinged tweets is that Mueller may be closing in on his son Don Jr. “A lot of what Trump is doing is based on the fact [that] Mueller is going after Don Jr.,” a person close to the Trump family told me. “They’re squeezing Don Jr. right now.”

Of course they are squeezing Don Jr. right now. He is the one who set up the entire meeting with the Russians, and then got caught issuing contradictory statements about it. Don Junior set up this meeting after the FBI specifically met with the campaigns of both sides to warn that Russians would attempt to infiltrate the campaign. He is deservedly on the hook for all that falls out from that decision.

So, that explains the state of the president, one that rage tweeted through an otherwise beautiful summer weekend.

  1. Emmet Flood doesn’t step in until there’s an impeachment hearing scheduled. What happened to that lovely legal couple Humpie dragged up from Florida ro represent him?
