And these signs and posters have become commonplace in Europe and other countries. We are the laughing stock of the entire world. Our diplomatic relationships are eroding swiftly. China closed one of our consulates recently after it became outraged that the Trump administration ordered the Houston consulate closed and took the unprecedented step of harboring a Chinese national who is wanted by the FBI in connection with the theft of intellectual property. One of their officials said, “Sheltering a defendant in a criminal case by using the diplomatic immunity of a consular building, if true, is really extraordinary.”
These are the signs of the times, literally and figuratively and it’s surprising we haven’t seen more. We are totally disgraced in the world right now and the disgrace does not lie solely with Donald Trump, by any means. He’s just a loud mouth game show host. He doesn’t know how government works. But McConnell and Graham and all the other Trump enablers in the Senate do know. And it’s pretty obvious that their attitude is, “I got mine, you worry.” They seem to be just fine with letting America go to Hell on their watch.
I hope there is a blue tsunami, because it’s going to take a political event of tsunami proportions to wash clean the excrement in our nation’s capitol.

The world isn’t just laughing at us. Our allies no longer trust us. Oh, they laugh at us to, but the kind of international cooperation needed for us to maintain and protect our interests around the world is badly broken and won’t be easily repaired. Even if/when it is the scars will remain visible forever. What I fear most is that it will be the mythical wound to Lancelot from Excalibur that can never heal. Every time I hear Trump or one of his GOP supplicants talk about our being the world’s leader I think back to the U.N. General Assembly in 2018 when Trump tried one of his “rah rah” rally lines and the room (these were heads of state and their senior diplomats!) quite literally broke out in widespread, audible laughter. THAT is what the world though of Trump THEN. I shudder to think about how far their opinion of us has fallen since. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – Bush 43 was the United States’ “Mulligan” (for non-golfers that a shot on the first tee that by agreement doesn’t count – if you blow it you’re given another chance without the lousy shot being part of your final score), especially when we turned around and resoundingly elected and then re-elected Obama. Trump has been at least as bad as they feared, and they can’t & won’t ignore the fact that twice in sixteen years this country has inaugurated a President who couldn’t gain a majority of the votes, and who was unqualified for the job – in Trump’s case massively so. If, as was the not at all funny “joke” of how could sixty million Americans be so stupid when Bush 43 was re-elected in 2004 wasn’t one of those uncomfortable jokes that hit both the tellers and the targets too close to home Trump getting over sixty million votes was something too terrible for the world to contemplate. It told them that a substantial portion of our country are quite literally dangerously ignorant. And just plain dangerous because our electoral system can allow for someone like Trump to actually stand on the steps of our Capitol and be sworn in as President.
Even if future generations somehow get us back to being in the ballpark of the standing we had in the world prior to Trump, history will judge not only him but the United States harshly. Deservedly so. It doesn’t matter that millions more of us voted for Clinton. The very provision in our once vaunted Constitution, the Electoral College was in large measure intended to prevent EXACTLY what happened with Trump. To have people of good judgement and character who actually knew shit step in and prevent a dangerous, unqualified demagogue and especially one who might be subject to foreign control from ascending to the Presidency. And when the moment in our history when that Constitutional provision was MOST needed it failed. It was as useless as a vestigial organ. In fact, it behaved like the vestigial organ people are most familiar with – the human appendix. The only time we are aware of it is when it becomes infected and has to come out! In this case the EC/appendix quite literally burst and the resulting infection is threatening to kill the host.
Now the world knows Bush 43 wasn’t a once in a lifetime aberration. That it can happen again. And again and again. Because for all the talk about the EV Compact it will be challenged in courts and the Federalist Society Five on SCOTUS will strike it down and leave a Constitutional Amendment removing the EC and going by the popular vote the Constitutional measure of winning the Presidency as the only remedy. Such an amendment will never get the necessary number of states to ratify such an amendment.
So, while we can once again become a world power that has significant respect we will never again be in the position we once had as the clear leader of the free world. That is gone. Forever.
Respectfully, after three years of Trump, did ANYTHING make you think otherwise? The neo-cons shall hate him for destroying their dreams of permanent American dominance (never you mind THEIR part in making all this come to pass…assholes!). We have hit the point that Britain did in the mid-1970s (as symbolized by John Le Carre’s classic novel Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy) where we are finally forced to admit a good many of our national myths no longer apply.
Actually, since November 2016 I’ve been thinking and saying that Bush 43 was our mulligan and that Trump would force our allies to accept that not only was Bush 43 not an aberration, but that the same (or worse) could happen again. And that as a result we’d never again be in the same position in terms of world leadership because when the world’s biggest economic and military power can’t be trusted to elect Presidents that actually are up to the job, that they can no longer count on the United States then they will begin the difficult process of creating alliances where we are only a participant rather than the leader. I’ve even said as much on a site for years now that I spent a lot of time on before I became active here. It’s been every bit as bad under Trump as I’d feared, and in fact even worse than I’d feared. But what I wrote isn’t something new for me.

You hit the nail on the head. As we learned from bush to Trump, it’s not THIS one that’s the problem, it’s the next one. And now that we’ve seen how many people LOVE Trum for exactly the reaons so many can’t stand him, we need to know that the people who walk around saying “I am NOT going to curtail my freedom so someone else can be happy that I’m wearing a mask FOR THEM!” These are the self-obsessed imbeciles that make for the Trumps of this world. Even if there’s a blue tsunami in 100 days, I shudder to think what’s coming in 1560 or 3020 days!!!

I had a dream last night. Someone placed a $10,000 bounty on the capture (not kill) one of Trump (Erik Prince’s) private army, waterboarded him and found out exactly who paid for this war on American citizens, how much they are paid, etc. We have to find out the origins of Trump Public Enema #1 war on American strategy. , Or as I also call him President IQAnon.
I too think someone is paying people to riot at the BLM protests. I think it’s Trump or his ass hat sons. That’s how he’s going to steal the election. If a cop gets killed all the better to his way of thinking. A good excuse to take over cities and delay the election.
Probably not. There simply is not enough of them. On July 24, DHS reported there were 1500 admittedly peaceful protesters and a few rioters. Seven were arrested. Right-wing extremists, particularly self-described Boogaloo Boys, have stated that their goals is to instigate a hot insurgency by assassinating law enforcement officers. The FBI has charged several. There are a few Antifa, but not anywhere the number the right wishes there were. The FBI says most rioters are random hooligans with no connections to Antifa.

I understand the researcher has been arrested. The charges are because she didn’t report her military connection on her visa application.
I have had lots of different visas in my passport,but I do not recall a single application where I was asked about military service or connections. As a US citizen, naturally I have never had a US visa. Does the application ask about military service? And so what? Lots of people, even the Chinese,serve in their nation’s military at some point. That does not make them or our vets prima facie spies.
