Todd Blanche is not set up to get approved this week, or this summer. In any normal congress, that would be that. But we left the normal zone some time back and Donald Trump has a contingency plan to get his boy approved, whether the current Senate wants to do it or not: delay.

Trump is banking on a GOP-controlled Senate after January, which is a good bet at this point, although nothing is carved in stone. The Democrats are still the underdog but by no means completely out of the running to control the Senate.

Trump knows this so he wants to wait until January, 2027, when Bill Cassidy, John Cornyn and Thom Tillis will all be gone and history and he can get the new Senate to approve his boy Todd Blanche.

And that is very possibly how it will go down. However, there is one glitch and it is a doozy: Blanche can only hold his “acting” status for 210 days. Those days end on October 29, meaning that Trump has to nominate another candidate by October 29 if Blanche is not approved.

That means Trump needs to get this Senate to approve Todd Blanche and so we’re right back to where we started, with the slush fund and the IRS exemptions. Does Trump not know this simple fact? Or does he have an end run around the 210 day rule as well?
