The man thinks he’s this great being, getting Putin and President Zelenskyy to discuss a peace plan to end the war. We’ve been down this road before, and it didn’t go well. Putin wants all of Ukraine. President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people are saying oh HELL NO. Trump thinks he can end the war. Well, it’s been more than “one day,” and the war rages on. A military expert revealed on Sunday that President Donald Trump is taking an “insane” approach to ending the war in Ukraine. Trump held another round of peace talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at Mar-a-Lago on Sunday, where the two leaders discussed the current 20-point peace plan that is on the table. Ahead of Trump’s chat with Zelenskyy, the president said he had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin following a night of heavy bombing by Russian forces against Ukrainian civilians.
What???? He had a conversation with Putin *before* he spoke with President Zelenskyy? After Russia hammered on *civilians* all night? What’s wrong with this picture? We should be supporting *Ukraine*, not having Trump’s lips surgically attached to Putin’s ass and being his lap dog, just saying what he’s told to say. Russia started the war! Russia needs to stand down, not Ukraine!
Tom Nichols, a staff writer for The Atlantic, said in an interview on MS NOW’s “Alex Witt Reports” that Trump appears to be trying to play the intermediary between Putin and Zelenskyy, a strategy that he said shows either that Trump doesn’t understand the conflict or that he is lying about his efforts to end it.
Our guess should be the lying. He does it so often that people keep track of it. He does it so things work out for him, not necessarily the way they should be – in this case, he should be supporting Ukraine. We still don’t know what Putin has promised him. That’s a hole that needs to be found and filled. It would prove to be *extremely* interesting.
“From the point of diplomatic practice, it’s insane,” Nicols said. You don’t check in with the aggressor when you’re talking to a putative friend and ally, and you don’t report in afterwards. You talk with your friends, with your allies, with Ukraine, and then you tell the Russians, ‘Here’s the offer. Here’s what you need to do.'” “And instead, it’s almost like Trump is acting like an intermediary, trying to express Putin’s wishes to Zelenskyy and to the world, which is what he did after the Alaska summit,” Nichols continued. “It’s what he does every time he gets off the phone with Putin. The fact is, Vladimir Putin has this hold over Donald Trump that makes Trump and the American government into basically a de facto ally of Russia.”
At this point, we have to pin our hopes on midterms to get a Congress that will stand up to Trump and *DO* something for Ukraine. We need to hope they can hold out that long. A lot of it now depends on the European group. Trump is firmly on Putin’s side, not the American side, or the Ukraine side, Putin’s side. We know you already know it a thousand times over, but our president sucks. Our “president” is really a yes-man for Russia. Putin must have one helluva hold on Trump. Ukraine suffers, and we suffer. This whole war is bullhockey. And it was started by Putin and Russia. When will the suffering end?
