I don’t know what the Republican war on Social Security is. It’s a good system. Likewise, Medicare. But the GOP has made both programs their personal scapegoats and gone after them with a vengeance.
There is the fantasy that the uber-wealthy hold of privatizing Social Security and Medicare, for profit, but from a party that has vowed for over ten years to repeal and replace Obamacare and has done zip, I don’t think it is slanderous to say that they are indulging themselves in pipedream.
Mike Lee is fully on board to wreak havoc with the best of the social safety net and sabotage the last years of many workers’ lives. He’s simply fine with that. Take a look.
Senator Mike Lee caught ON TAPE saying he wants to "phase out Social Security, pull it up from the roots, get rid of it."
Spread this everywhere.

Yes, the clip is from 2010, not yesterday. But here is what is from yesterday:
Congressional Republicans, eyeing a midterm election victory that could hand them control of the House and the Senate, have embraced plans to reduce federal spending on Social Security and Medicare, including cutting benefits for some retirees and raising the retirement age for both safety net programs.
Once again I quote Maya Angelou. When somebody tells you who they are, believe them. The GOP has been telling us the exact same thing, lo these many years. I suggest we believe them and take action accordingly.
Mike Lee is polling ahead of Evan McMullin. We don’t need this man back in the Senate. We really don’t.

Yeah, yeah, keep running your mouth, Lee. A man who wishes to lose THIS badly should get his wish.
A nation of chickens voting for the butcher.
Maybe Congressional health and pensions benefits should be tied to Medicare and SS, so that whatever happens to one happens to the other, to the same percentage.
Pulling down all the perks enjoyed by Congress people will be an option that might make the Republicans think at least twice … they voted themselves their impressive wage system, their perks include top line of free health care, based on shutting that down, forcing them to pay out of their own wages, with deductions automatic for the best health care, which should be astronomical… They should be made to feel the same pinches we all do … most of us do not make $148,000.
linking all their wages and perks to our rates and charges may make them a little more kind and less of a tyrant like GOP Sen, LEE
Like they would vote for that!!
The whole raise the age of eligibility bs is pure crap. From the age of 60 on, getting a decent job is ridiculously hard. I changed states and found myself being interviewed by people 30 years younger with a third of the experience I have and inevitably losing the job to someone only slightly older than the interviewer. There’s a huge age bias and stigma in the working world – unless you’re in Congress and can keep your seat into your 90’s!
The people who NEED S.S. are the ones who have been working, and working hard, all their lives. This isn’t just the age discrimination issue, though it is very much alive and thriving, it’s the fact that your lower wage workers have bodies that are just about done having worked so hard for so little. Increasing the age to obtain S.S. benefits is just fucked up when you look at the folks who will really need it.
But they are raising the age to keep from having to let Social Security/Medicare pay out any money. People are not living as long as even a few years ago so raising the age ensures that far fewer people will collect for far fewer years. Win-win for the gqp if they get their hands on our money.
Even at 50 you are in dodgy territory if forced to be looking for a job. I remember facing that & the attitude towards me from some people was astonishing. I did find a new position where I stayed for the next 23 years ! I was even more valuable to them at that point than at 50 !
If the ‘pubes go down this road they will be putting themselves in harm’s way. I will be part of a long, long, line of Americans taking the mother fuckers out. Guess they didn’t think out that “let everyone have firearms” strategy to well. It will not be a taking them out at the ballot box either. It will be a “these fuckers are stealing from us and they must be eliminated” type of removal.
Last I checked, Spike, that’s still Murder One you’re talking about. And something tells me you’re not ready for a permanent vacation behind the Walls. So knock it off and get back on winning the midterms. Victory there will last longer and hurt worse for those pricks.
Trump saved the system tens of millions by killing off over a million citizens by hiding the truth and lying about covid…oh and gutting and arm twisting the CDC. Oh & providing no shots, tests, or protective equipment. VERY EFFECTIVE. It was somewhat a wash since he played golf a solid year out of 4 years at HIS courses, overcharging the secret service. So maybe the taxpayers took it up the ass after all. Nevermind.
If he wants to give me back every penny I’ve paid in over my lifetimw (and that my employers have paid in), adjusted for inflation and with compunded interest, – and then do the same for every single person who is receiving Social Security benefits OR has ever paid into it – if he wants to do that – we can talk.
Forgotr to say that by compunded interest, I mean CONTINUOUSLY compunded interest.
