Last week, one of the most significant environmental disasters in decades happened in Ohio, and we are just now starting to appreciate the consequences. Why now? Because we had our eyes fixed to the sky at a damned balloon with every Republican going ffffing nuts because someone wouldn’t use a giant gun to shoot the fcker down (It was highly erotic to the MAGA male, use that gun), then there were more things in the sky, some remain strangely unidentified which is weird, and there was a football game to be played and the Right needed time to be outraged about a pregnancy announcement halftime show that they were certain was Satanic.
Only now are people scratching their heads and saying, “You mean to tell me that it’s actually worse than it looks?” Yes, that’s what we mean:

Norfolk Southern officials said some of the cars carrying the vinyl chloride were not breached during the crash but were at risk of exploding, so crews released and burned their contents on Feb. 6, creating a massive smoke plume above the town for several hours.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said on Tuesday he authorized the operation of the release and burning of the vinyl chloride at the crash site, saying officials faced two bad options between potentially letting a car containing the material explode or doing the release.
A lot of people are furious with DeWine because he didn’t call in for federal help and experience. It is no shame. If you faced a rare danger, wouldn’t you want feedback from as many experts throughout the country as possible?
The EPA said it was also investigating soil and surface water contamination near the crash site and had collected spilled material in a nearby stream, Sulphur Run.

DeWine said the train was not considered a “high-hazardous material train” despite the chemicals onboard, meaning Norfolk Southern was not required to notify the state of the contents of the cars. He also called on Congress to review how high-hazardous trains are classified.
Nice to hear it wasn’t carrying a mix of lead, mercury, uranium, and arsenic. And many people wholly disagree with DeWine, but we’re getting far afield. The point is that the GOP governor “declined” assistance from the federal government (Declined the use of as many expert minds as possible), and the derailment happened after Trump deregulated the rail industry altogether.
So it’s damned offensive when Mercedes Schlapp blames the entire matter on Joe Biden:

First, Build Back Better was never fully passed. It’s not a thing, Mercedes (Who the fck names their daughter “Mercedes”?). And Joe Biden absolutely has plans to upgrade safety in the rail industry, and guess who opposes it?
Besides, Biden actually did get a big portion of Build Back Better passed, making him one of the most consequential presidents of our lifetimes, and he did so by outsmarting and outflanking the Republicans. But the fact is that big plans like that have a long lag time. It doesn’t happen in six months or even 18. But Trump’s deregulatory action has had time to ingrain itself into the system.
In other words, STFU.

(She only won an Oscar in her film debut–Best Supporting Actress in “All the King’s Men.” She was also the voice of the demon Pazuzu in “The Exorcist”–most of the dialogue that came out of the possessed Linda Blair’s mouth was provided by Mercedes McCambridge.)
Then, there’s another famous actress, Mercedes Ruehl (a Best Actress Tony winner for “Lost in Yonkers” and a Best Supporting Actress Oscar winner for “The Fisher King”).
And, Mercedes McNab (best known for the role of “Harmony Kendall” on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel”).
And, of course, the Mercedes Benz automobile was named for Mercédès Jellinek (her father essentially designed the first car to be called a “Mercedes” and insisted the company, Daimler, name it for her).

I also didn’t understand why anyone trapped in Dracula’s castle would wait til the sun was setting and then go try to take on Dracula. I’m saying wait til a sunny morning and be sure you have a hammer and enough stakes! Taking on evil is a dicey task. The old joke is the greatest trick the devil ever did was convince us he doesn’t exist. I don’t assume anything any longer. I go on facts and my direct experiences. Mysteries don’t disappear just because materialism has taken over our culture. I respect science as I’ve taken high level science courses across mutiple disciplines, and high level calculus at a public ivy. However, scientists, know better than anyone, just how little we actually know for a fact. All of us are on a path to find that out for ourselves. Some of us are lucky/unlucky to experience it while living. Hamlet gave a prescient warning to us all, comfortable in our idiosyncratic certainty. There are more things in heaven and earth than dreamt of in all our philosophies. I know that to be true, and I know there’s things that exist that don’t have our well being in mind. In fact, they mean to achieve more evil darkness. They mean to destroy hope by any means possible. As the old gospel tune said…you gotta walk that lonesome valley…you gotta walk it by yourself. Better have a candle to light your way because eternal darkness is no place to be lost. We’ll get a chance to share someday.

I hear you and believe you and having run psychiatric admissions at Duke and the largest free standing psy hospital in wake county…meds cannot fix or have any impact on what you are experiencing. I could care less what others think. They are on their own. I had a near death experience that shattered all my educated assumptions and doubts in 1973. The details of which were so frighteningly tangible and existed objectively outside myself, it has been burned in my memory and soul for 50 years. I think of it often when the culture we live in lives in smug denial of evil outside of human behavior. I don’t call forth what i encountered because I know it’s real and can be called forth. I got through it because I asked God,(not the word), to help me and what had been present left instantly. The impenetrable darkness full of active intelligent evil that had me immobile,(dead), for what seemed an immeasurable amount of time,(time has no dimension on the other side), torturing me into eternal despair, in a twinkling of an eye, disappeared and I was alive with all my familiar surroundings. The phrase get behind me Satan took on a new dimension. Now when I read the passages in the gospels where Jesus encountered the devil and demons I know something I didn’t know before. It’s not superstition or epilepsy or mental illness or illiteracy that gave rise to those passages. When I first saw the movie Constantine I realized I had some definitions like hellspeak to define part of my experience. Brother, keep your prayer life. This living/dying is far far far from over. We are not just cosmic accidents that get eternally recycled. No pill can impact these realities. They can only numb.
