I am just ridiculously happy about this! Kinda makes up for some of tRump’s nonsense. Mark is not going to take threats and tariffs against his country lying down. He’ll fight back. Yea, he’ll come visit Agent Orange for the sake of discussion, but if tRump doesn’t back down on the tariffs, too bad so sad. Prime Minister Carney is going to push back in a major fashion, and I am GLAD!
Carney was already showing he was not going to take the abuse from El Presidente Imbécil after Justin Trudeau stepped down. Tariffs on them? Okay, here are some right back! Plus, this stupidity about Canada being the 51st state is not flying with him. It’s just Not Going To Happen. Aw, yeah.
Now, I have nothing against Conservative opposition leader Pierre Poilievre, mind you. But Mark Carney shepherded Canada through the financial crisis of 2008, He also helped the UK navigate Brexit (which I think was seriously stupid for the UK, but that’s me). Those are 2 big things (I’m sure there are a host of small ones) that say, to me, he is more than capable of dealing with the Mango Mandarin Messiah, even when he’s being his most erratic.
tRump is not going to know what to do with him. He’ll expect a conciliatory attitude from Carney. He’s not going to get it. He is expecting a lamb and will be getting a Prime Minister Carney lion that will chew him up and spit him back out. Carney has had enough. They have already started looking at other partners to take over what used to be US allies and trading partners. They are yet another country that is tired of the craziness that is the US.
It drives me nuts that the Cheeto Prophet can’t (won’t?) see what is right in front of him, with country after country pulling back and looking for other partners. I’ll bet there are more than made the news, a *lot* more. And the countries that were our allies are backing away, too. What is the point of dealing with an unpredictable president who can’t make up his mind? THAT is what Canada is seeing. THAT is what our allies are seeing.
It’s just sad that it has come to this, but the Prime Minister is ready for it. We already know there are provinces in Canada that will push back on tRump’s demands. And they have no problem doing so. The whole country is likely ready to set tariffs in place again. I can hardly wait to see what happens when the states that get power from Canada have to deal with tariffs, or worse yet, Canada stops providing it. There will be some screaming at the Tangerine Palpatine then! (I’m not sure what the arrangement is, but I do know we get power for a couple of northern states from Canada.)
I believe Mr. Carney is a *lot* stronger than tRump. With his experience, he definitely has the chops to go up against him. He has the chops to pull Canada out of its problems. He’ll think of Canada *first*. He’ll take care of his country *before* talking with the Pampers President. I’m eager to see where he’s going to go from here. I hope we have updates. Congratulations, Prime Minister Mark Carney. Let’s see you kick a** and take names!
*****And now, please be so kind as to read a very special request from our awesome boss******
Zoomers, we are always in need of donations. It’s been an especially rough month, and my own health has not been great these past few weeks, which just adds to the frustration. Anything you can spare will be immensely appreciated. And thank you to all who have donated generously already. Ursula

you mention Brexit. i hear the same lines from MAGA, that we heard ftom Johnson, Farage etc.(“the E/China needs us more than we need them” immediately comes to mind)
Brexit was a disaster, all so millionaires didn’t want to pay more tax.
F47 has changed the world trade trajectory for decades to come.
My opinion of Brexit isn’t to be shared in polite company *ahem*
F47? Gods, has he ever! And we’re not going to be able to get our country back to where it was *before* 47. I can’t imagine being a kid growing up now. What a disaster of a world they’ll inherit and all because they couldn’t handle a strong, non-white female for president. ARGH!
As far as traitor tot not knowing what to do with Carney, he’ll just lie the same as he is about Xhi and China. They can say all the things they want to, but the truth is tRump is alienating the majority of our trading partners and I’m pretty sure China and other major players will pick up the slack.
Oh yes, of course he’ll lie. But people will be listening for news out of Canada, and they’ll post it *muhahahaha*
I’m already seeing articles about China meeting with the leaders of other countries. I’m sure that other places will change over to them and say the hell with us. We are SO SCREWED.
The faithless USA has sacrificed its hard-won position as leader of the ‘free world’ by joining with Putin’s Russia, which forced all other democracies to accept the sad fact that Trump’s version of America is now an enemy, not just an ex-friend. That vote in the UN against Ukraine and with Russia was the death knell for American leadership and prestige. If and when Trump removes sanctions on Russky criminal oligarchs (and tries to kill the Magnitsky Act), watch Europe and the Commonwealth nations turn their backs forever. The EU is still the world’s biggest, wealthiest trading bloc and it will survive without the US. Will the US survive with just Russia and N Korea as its allies?
“I have nothing against Conservative opposition leader Pierre Poilievre, mind you.”
You should, as a reporter.
The man is a ghoul, a conservative Canadian who wants to privatize working govt functions, reduce health care and cut taxes for his rich buddies. He’s done nothing else in his adult life other than being a politician. he lost his eat the one he’d had for 20 years! What a success. He is Canadian MAGA. A true fraud, just like his buddy tRumpy.
