Yes, I’m behind. Oof. While we were all waiting to see what Trump would do last night, a couple of special elections were underway. All of them were surprising. One of them could be “considered” bad, but it wasn’t really, because it proved something. It proved that we’re not all sitting on our hands and boo-hoo-ing. Seriously, Congress Dems, would you wake up please? We are out here busting our butts. A little support would be nice. Some things can be done even when in the minority. Appreciation to Politico via, and also to, Raw Story:

Democrats had another strong electoral showing Tuesday night in the battleground states of Wisconsin and Georgia in what Politico described as “one of their best election nights since President Donald Trump returned to the White House” – a showing that sparked panic among some GOP-aligned operatives as the midterm elections fast approach.

Heh. They should have panicked a long time ago, when the Blue Wave first got started. We’ve done nothing but improve in every single election. But right now, Republicans have the majority in Congress, and they’re just coasting along. It would behoove them to pay more attention. Darn near *everyone* is sick of Trump and what he’s done to the country, including that stupid, ridiculous war. The phrase “guilt by association” is applicable here. It’s sticking to them. Now, this does not bode well for the midterms in 2030, but if we could get a *decent* government, it might not be as severe.

In Wisconsin, which Trump carried in 2024 by tens of thousands of votes, the Democratic-backed candidate in the state Supreme Court race, Chris Taylor, won with a near 20-point margin. Alicia Halvensleben, another Democrat, won a Wisconsin mayoral race in a Republican-leaning suburb, and in Georgia, Democratic congressional candidate Shawn Harris lost in a special election runoff, but cut into Trump’s margins of victory by 25 points. Politico spoke to a GOP strategist about the Wisconsin Supreme Court race, who, speaking on the condition of anonymity, lashed out at Republicans involved in the contest for handing Democrats yet another victory.

So, the “bad” was for Mr. Harris in Georgia, but if you look at how many points he took away from Trump’s numbers, it really isn’t bad. Folks should be paying attention to these numbers. When you look at how thoroughly kick-arse the wins have been, it says something. Ignore at their peril. We may still be down, but we are coming up, and we are not out. Likely, it’s just going to get worse – for the Republicans.

“Everyone involved should be doxxed, tarred and feathered and run out of Wisconsin politics,” the strategist said, dismissing the notion that the victory bodes well for Democrats in the upcoming midterms. “The electorate is so different now. GOP voters don’t show up for spring [elections] like they used to.”

Brandon Scholz, formerly a GOP strategist before leaving the party in 2021, described Democrats’ latest electoral victory in Wisconsin as “a wow moment,” and told Politico that the election results did, in fact, signal trouble for Republicans going forward. “Republicans ought to be sitting down tonight and going, ‘Okay, we just screwed up another race. What are we going to do in November?” Scholz told Politico.

BOOM. Except for the Senate race in Texas with *retch* Ken Paxton, Republicans don’t seem to be paying attention to elections. We think of them as steps forward, moving farther and farther ahead. *We* are planning. We are thinking about midterms. We know there *will* be midterms, no matter what Trump tries to do. No Kings.

Here is a bonus for you. It’s a list of all the members of Congress who are not running for re-election. Finally found it. See you soon!

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of elderly, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. Susan, there will be midterms, at least in name, but the question is: who will be counting the votes? If the Repugnicans seem to be somewhat laissez-faire about the elections, maybe they believe it’s already rigged and in the bag.

    • jarvis, ouch. That part had completely eluded me. It seems we have an even bigger fight on our hands than I had been seeing. Vote counters being rigged. Dang.

  2. well i had my hopes up for shaw (donated a total of $60, a lot for me) but it is important that he did as well as he did. if i’m not mistaken. that’s about a 63 point improvement over the mtg wins.
