Despite more than 60 losses in court and more Americans than not heartily sick of hearing drumpf whine about Joe Biden mugging him in 2020, Trump lawyer John Lauro thinks it is a good idea to attempt to convince a D.C. jury and a judge who has been jailing Dec. 6th hooligans right and left for months that his client had a right to send his mob to sack the Capitol his feels told him the election was rigged by Italian satellites, vote by mail and dead South American despots.
Yeah, John, that’s gonna work out well for ya.
They finally found the evidence! Beamed directly from the mothership!

🤣🤣🤣
When lawyers are more concerned about their on-camera/media time than the actual law, they're all going to look like a Giuliani in the end.

Yup
"We will piss the judge off from the get-go." Nice defense. What do you charge an hour for this brilliant defense, John?

She’s teed off just reading this.
Losing in court more than 60 times wasn’t enough, I guess.

I suppose you’ll be calling Rudy, the MyPillow guy and the rest of the Kraken team to the stand. Cuz that went real well first time around 🤡

🤣🤣🤣
So they plan on putting on an evidence-free defense. Great strategy.

Yup
Good grief. I think the supposed 2020 election issues are outside the scope of this indictment. Whether the election was fraudulent or not trump had no right to conspire to change the outcome. He had legal avenues to follow if he suspected fraud. He did. Nothing was found amiss.

If this is Lauro’s plan, he had better rethink.
Of course there is no defense of Trump’s actions… actions which Jack Smith will prove in court, so I guess they have to try something.
I think Lauro is blowing smoke because that’s how things are done nowadays. He used to practice law with an MSNBC commentator whose name I can’t remember right now. Point being, he’s a good lawyer and is going to present the best defense he can (according to his former colleague, the commentator) but it’s not going to fly.
Joyce Vance also said that the court of public opinion is one thing and a court of law is something entirely different.
Ursula, if you ever wonder why I dump on lawyer educations, well, this is yet another example. Law degrees just aren’t engineering degrees. lol
Didn’t those previous 60 cases set a, what’s the word?.
Precedent.
Ah, but thanks to our “illustrious” Supreme Court, “precedent” apparently no longer means anything when it comes to the law. (Or maybe “precedent” is still meant to apply to those lesser judges, just like silly things like “judicial ethics.”)
He probably got an ultimatum from Trump to start preaching this and even to make it part of the defense strategy – classic Trumpian delay, delay delay and then delay some more. Still, it’s a stupid move to announce it before Trump is even arraigned. If anything it’s a head’s up to the judge about what Team Trump will try and while she’s got a sterling reputation for fairness she’s also got one for running a tight ship. Not putting up with utter bullsh*t and having been a GOOD defense lawyer earlier in her career she knows all the tricks some defense lawyers like to try and pull. She’s now got her clerk poring over her calendar looking to find ways as in dates for status conferences/hearings and ultimately trial dates to clear the necessary time to get this trial done well before the election.
Here’s the other thing that makes this really stupid. If Jack Smith’s team wasn’t allowing for at least some of this, now they know for sure. By the end of this month they will have a stack of responses to the motions they now know Lauro will make. So no time will be wasted there. And the DC appellate court is well versed in all this stuff, as is SCOTUS so appeals will be swiftly handled. In SCOTUS’ case by simply denying Cert and letting the appellate ruling stand. Supposedly Lauro is a pretty good lawyer so he knows all this.
But hell, he’s a lawyer and since he probably got a nice, fat retainer upfront and is okay with not being well-regarded by good law firms in the future, if he’s made enough already and with his new money from Trump he’s okay with a sort of early semi-retirement he’ll take his money and do what Trump wants. HE won’t be the one convicted of federal felonies and wind up with a prison sentence after all!
