Oh, this is too good! It was reported that an entry code in the system isn’t working for American ships to have their freight exempted from tariffs, and it broke the whole system! That meant no tariffs were being collected. Zero, zip, nada, zilch. None. I am about dyin’ of laughter here, even just seeing this again!
From The New Republic: “There has been some confusion on what President Trump has said in social media posts on when the tariff starts and what is written in the executive order,” Jarred Varanelli, vice president of U.S. sales at logistics firm Savino Del Bene, told CNBC. “Social media posts are not law on the pause and increase in tariffs. With the constant changes to the regulations, all customs brokers in our industry have a difficult task ahead of them.”
I had been wondering about that. He’s been flip-flopping around so much with the damn things that no one knows what is correct. So, how in the hell can they change it in time? He said a 90-day pause on tariffs, but then decided on a flat 10% rate across the board. And how many times has he changed the tariffs on China in the space of just a day? But then he said no, Canada and Mexico still have their 25% rates. And so on, and so forth, ad nauseam. We’re all getting whiplash, both here and across the world.
Have you noticed China isn’t playing that game? Nope. They increased their tariffs on us to almost match what Agent Orange put on them. You want to play with the big dog? Bring it on! This is making American manufacturers scream. A lot of businesses do certain things with China, and without them, the business goes to a standstill. That potentially means price increases and layoffs. tRump thinks he’s helping American business. Well, he’s not helping with the tariffs on Canada and Mexico, and they’re our neighbors! But China isn’t playing. I don’t think Traitor Tot likes having the same thing thrown back at him! I’m hoping tRump backs down, but who knows. Maybe, if enough people, especially the people with the money, scream at him, he’ll rethink this nonsense. We can hope!
It should mean something that the system cannot keep up with all these changes, especially for how rapidly they are coming. Sure, we might need a better computer system, but the problem, really, lies with our excuse for a president. He can’t make up his damn mind, so Customs and Border Protection has to keep changing the rates, and it made things break. Serves him right.
Again from TNR: “Whether you agree or disagree with the policy, you have to ask, do we have the ability to do it this rapidly?” Dewardric McNeal, managing director and senior policy analyst at consulting firm Longview Global, said to CNBC. “This glitch may be an indication that we need more time. It seems odd that this is the time it happens. This adds policy chaos for the implementer.” For now, CBP is telling shippers to pay duties and tariffs within 10 days of their cargo’s release, in which time it expects the glitch to be resolved. But the whole mess is just further evidence of a complete lack of strategy, planning, or direction with Trump’s tariffs. It doesn’t inspire confidence from the markets, hedge funds, manufacturing workers, or anyone outside of MAGAworld.” Gee, ya think??!
Yea, I agree, WE can agree, what a mess. For supposedly trying to show the world how powerful he is, well, it’s not working. Those of us outside MAGA *knew* it wouldn’t work. Anyone with half a brain can see what chaos he is creating. I do, indeed, see price increases and layoffs coming. Don’t forget that there’s also notice being taken of possible insider trading. Yup. It’s a mess.
*****And now, please read a very special request from our awesome boss******
Zoomers, we feel guilty asking for cash, but if you can spare a small amount, it will keep us trekking through cyberspace. Many hands make light work, many small contributions add up to enough. And most of all, we thank you for coming here to read. Ursula

Nobody will want to invest in the US now. Trump changes his mind more often than he changes his diaper. First a tariff, then NO, no tariff. Then a partial tariff. Then exclusions for some things. He has a hurricane brain, only good at causing chaos and damage.
And the sole reason he excluded electronics from the China tariffs—which he would never admit—is because China has imposed export controls and bans on critical minerals like antimony, gallium, germanium, and graphite, which are essential for semiconductors, batteries, and other technologies. That is, China won’t sell their critical minerals used in electronics manufacture. And these are minerals we don’t have.
This means that any US factories would not be able to acquire the needed minerals for electronics and therefore could not have factories in the US even if they wanted to. Evidently someone finally hammered this information into Trump’s addled brain.
I *absolutely* agree! Thanks for the comment!
Donniec could fuck up.a wet dream.
