Let’s get right to this. “A direct quote from Joseph Goebbels: ‘It is the absolute right of the state to supervise the formation of public opinion,’ and I think that may be what we’re discussing here,” said Texas’ Keith Self. Goebbels was the minister of propaganda for the Third Reich under Adolf Hitler. His role was to convince the German people to support Hitler’s regime, which he did so by spreading anti-Semitism and orchestrating the 1933 burning of “un-German” books in Berlin. Whaaaaat? People like this still *exist* today? I was hoping we had finally gotten rid of all of them.
Self, 72, referenced Goebbels’ words during a House subcommittee meeting aimed at determining whether a “censorship industrial complex” existed. The Tuesday hearing was held after Republicans claimed that Biden-era policies aimed to stifle rightwing views. Good grief. Rebuttal: from Congresswoman Julie Johnson: “Joseph Goebbels was a literal Nazi and one of Hitler’s closest allies. To my Republican colleagues, it is probably best not to quote him during a congressional hearing.” Touche, Congresswoman! ““When you’re quoting Joseph Goebbels about… the role of state in the public debate, we have a big problem,” Johnson said. “I mean, that’s as alarming as hell to me, when that becomes the gold standard of Hitler.” She said it was concerning that he was referencing a quote associated with “German atrocities during World War II.”
Folks, this is a real problem! I have nothing against the fine people of Texas, and I have friends that live there. I only have problems with their government, and if this is part of it, some people better wake up and take notice! I don’t think that the Mango Mandarin Messiah intends to be *that* bad, but I hope no one ever gives him the idea. On the other hand, he might *get* the idea from Elon running around, and throwing “Heil” gestures, and working with the far-right political group in Germany. I can see my nightmares already. I hope it doesn’t come to the point where the American people have to rise up and boot *both* of them out of the country. Let’s give them to Canada. They have scores to settle, and I’m sure they’ll take good care of them. Ho, Ho, Ho.
Here is an additional quote from the Congresswoman.
She later posted the clip of Self on X with the comment, “Joseph Goebbels was a literal Nazi and one of Hitler’s closest allies. To my Republican colleagues, it is probably best not to quote him during a congressional hearing.” Self’s reply? He said: “I was referring to the philosophy of Nina Jankowicz, the former head of Biden’s Disinformation Governance Board. Probably best not to throw stones when your party supported funneling millions of dollars through Biden’s State Dept. to shape public opinion.” *HE* shouldn’t throw stones. His leader is tRump and look at how much of a mess he has created! (*If* we can get into the White House next term, it will take longer than 4 years just to clean things up.)
And one last quote for you from someone different: At the hearing, Jankowicz, the leader of a pro-democracy organization and former executive director of the Disinformation Governance Board, said that “the premise of this hearing, the so-called censorship industrial complex, is a fiction that has not only had profound impacts on my life and safety, but on our national security.” She later added that the “fiction is itself suppressing speech and stymieing critical research that protects our country.” DOGE leader Elon Musk later called Jankowicz and her colleague “evil people.” And by the way? Congressman Self has used Goebbles quotes before.
This is HORRIFYING. I’m sitting here shaking my head as I’m writing this. How, HOW can we have people like that today? And HOW can we have them in government? Okay, okay, I know Elon isn’t exactly in government but he has a ton of influence. I hope they don’t try to follow Hitler’s viewpoint and start another movement of that time, like that time. I will fight that however I can. For right now, at least, that’s not yet a concern. I hope it stays that way.
*****And now, please read a very special request from our awesome boss******
Zoomers, if you have any spare change, please, we could use it. We are now entering month five of Trump Depression Syndrome, the moniker given to the phenomenon of a lot of Democrats tuning out from politics to save their sanity. I understand and respect that. I also know that somebody has to stay on the front lines, or there won’t be an army left to fight this war. So, that’s us. Please. We could use your help. And thank you for coming here to read about all the events. Ursula

Self was a county commissioner for our county…and wasnt well thought of. He was elected only because there isnt a Dem within site in this county and the people are morons.
Um, you may have a point on the “isn’t a Dem within site” when it comes to the general election, but what’s the excuse for the Nazi’s winning the GOP primary in the first place? Especially when you say he “wasn’t well thought of.”
If such an admirer of Nazis managed to get elected despite the fact he “wasn’t well thought of,” then what does that say about the state of your local GOPers?
Nobody ran against him?
Good point! This is Texas you know… ’nuff said
The GQP is now the GNP; Grand Nazi Party. And the GNP is making the actual GNP go down the tubes.
There’s little doubt remaining that republicans have flavored their ideology with Nazism to curry favor with Herr Drumpf so why not say it out loud? Magats will respond with one of a few rejoinders. It’s a joke, it’s fake news, or they don’t care because it’s in service to their savior, so it must be good. I’m solidly against anything Nazi related and saddened that the ideology has taken root in America so this kind of talk from an elected representative is deeply troubling to me as well.
