Oh, how sharper than a serpent’s tooth is an ungrateful party. Pollster Ed Goeas who runs Georgetown University’s Battleground Poll is about to find himself on the receiving end of name calling in a few short hours. “Low life” will probably be the epithet that Donald Trump first uses. Goeas’ recent poll indicates that the GOP is in a good scoring position for the 2022 midterms but for one fat orange fly in the ointment. Washington Examiner:
The results indicate that the GOP stands on the cusp of winning back the House and Senate if it can build out its base and reach just a few more wavering voters, such as older and suburban women.
But a longtime Republican pollster and co-director of the Georgetown University Battleground Poll said there is a big hurdle in the way.
“We need Trump to go away to get them,” said Ed Goeas.
After Goeas gets called a low life, heretic and blasphemer will not be too far behind. The Cult will be outraged. Get rid of the Mango Monarch? Where are the work plans for that gallows the boys threw together for the insurrection?
Goeas, who leads the Tarrance Group, has always been blunt about Trump and the hurdles he presents to the party’s success. And it’s the loss of suburban women under the bombastic former president and a view that government is a poor fix for the nation’s ills that Trump fostered during the coronavirus crisis that he said are blocking the party’s resurgence.
“Indeed, one of the unfortunate legacies of the Trump administration is undermining faith for many partisan Republicans in all government,” he said in his poll analysis. “The high unfavorable rating for [coronavirus Dr.] Anthony Fauci among GOP partisans is a clear manifestation of this legacy. While skepticism about the government will always be a hallmark of Republican politics, there should be more room than there is now for faith in limited government.”
Now you can add “traitor” to the list. He dares to criticize the Tangerine Tyrant, Cantaloupe Caligula himself? But wait — it gets worse.
Another lost issue, he said, is deficit spending. “I mean, he spent money like a drunken sailor, which is what we used to say about the Democrats. And so now, trying to go after Biden on some of his spending, although he’s spending even that much more, it just rings hollow after the last four years of us never mentioning spending,” said the pollster and political adviser. “There is real value for Republicans to be for things and not just stand in opposition to Democratic proposals,” he said. “Voters have not fully embraced President Biden and his agenda. They remain notably concerned about pocketbook issues and their personal financial security. Republicans who are helping find solutions that improve the financial lives of voters will see their standing with voters rise,” he wrote in the poll analysis co-written by partner Brian Nienaber.
“My advice to Republicans,” he said in our interview, “is Republicans have to get back to being for something.”
More specifically, he said, “There is an opportunity for Republicans to get back on a solid economic message in a positive way of what we’re for, not what we’re against. And that’s how we can overcome the hole we’re in. Oh, we’re definitely in a hole.”
In a “hole?” After Trump built the greatest economy — twice, he’ll have you know — the greatest military and won the election by the greatest landslide ever in the history of elections, on this or any other planet, before the Democrats, socialists, commies, and Chinese took it away from him, and this guy is talking about the GOP being in a hole? When Trump hears about this, this pollster better call Fauci toute suite and ask where he can hire security guards. This lack of faith will not be tolerated. There is only one, true GOP God, and that is Donald.
It is interesting that this poll hits the news the same day as Trump’s legal problems ramping up and the day before he embarks on his Rally Roadshow. One would think that the GOP is going to have to make a big decision, and soon: to be or not to be? Because they either have to decide to get behind him as their standard bearer or they need to cast off the anchor that he has become, if they are to survive. And that’s according to their own pollster.
It’s enough to give Mitch a migraine.

They may very well hope that but they’re wrong. Whether Trump actually wants to try to get reelected in 2024 is one thing, but his need to go out and do rallies and sell merchandise between now and then is completely another. That’s where they’re screwed. They’re going to have to do something soon.
