This day is getting curiouser and curiouser. Donald Trump is supposed to headline the GOP convention in Dallas tonight and his hair is giving him fits — at least in the wind. Get him inside and he might be okay. This next video appears to show Trump bitching out the pilot of Marine One — now what oh what could that possibly be about?

Trump’s definitely off balance for a few minutes here. He even fails to salute the servicemen who salute him as he descends the steps. That’s not usual.

We should see a lot of speculation in days to come over what this spat was about but literally, how could the pilot of Marine One be in the wrong? He gets Trump safely from doorway to doorway and that’s his job. So what did the pilot do to Trump to where Trump found so much fault?

In any event, Trump is now juiced up for the GOP convention.

  1. My worry is that two Marines who went through the arduous process of becoming Naval Aviators and from there had to perform at the highest standards have lost their wings. Hell, Trump probably didn’t even have to call Hegseth to bitch about them. Petey Boy likely decided to wreck two careers just to suck up to Trump. FYI I actually served with someone who had come over to Henderson Hall after a tour with VMX-1 (the helicopter squadron at Anacostia that serves the President) and had my ex-wife not vetoed me joining the reserves would have been part of it myself.

As for Trump blowing off saluting the Marines that’s always been something that bugged the shit out of me. It became a standard thing with Reagan and even before I knew what I’d learn after becoming a jarhead it just rubbed me the wrong way. As Marines those in VMX-1 are part of the Department of the Navy – which consists of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps. Saluting etiquette is different in the Naval Service than in the Army and Air Force.

In the Naval Service one does NOT salute unless ‘covered’ (wearing a hat) nor when in civilian attire. If saluted by someone who is the correct thing under regulations to do is nod and perhaps add a verbal acknowledgement but one does NOT return the salute. In the Naval Service one is not ‘covered’ (again, wearing a hat) unless “Under Arms.” That means carrying a weapon (usually a sidearm/pistol) like an MP or armed guard, or wearing a Duty Belt (a three inch wide white, cloth belt) as the Officer of the Day or the Duty NCO.

Even a President who once served in the armed forces shouldn’t return those salutes, but simply nod to acknowledge them, much less give a sloppy, half-assed salute as we commonly see and not just from Trump. At the very least if a President wants to cosplay they could give a proper goddamned salute with a little snap to it.

BTW. while I have no problem with Trump not saluting in this case his just blowing past the Marines flanking the stairs of Marine One pisses me off.
