Maybe Mitch McConnell should hire an astrologer because today is not his day. And it’s shaping up to be that way for a while. Maybe this is the new theme song of the 2022 midterms, or a music bed under the entire event, in any rate, “Fire Mitch.” Eric Greitens has vowed to come up with information Tuesday that will prove that McConnell and Josh Hawley are plotting against him and now Mo Brooks is making noises from Alabama that he is a MAGA first and “president” Trump endorses him.
Mo, I wouldn’t hang onto that one too tightly if I were you. Donnie has been talking about how disappointing you are and Donnie is not known for loyalty. No, Sir, that’s a one way street with Trump.
In any event, the coveted Trump endorsement is all that Brooks has got and so to hang onto it he’s opposing McConnell, thinking that that will please his master. We shall see.
In an unusual move, Mo Brooks issues a statement that if elected he will “fire Mitch McConnell” because he is a “weak-kneed, debt junkie” who “sells out America.” I guess his campaign is now Brooks v McConnell. ? pic.twitter.com/xivuOH3clw

Brooks is anti-McConnell along with Eric Greitens and Kelly Tshibaka, another religious wingnut who hears voices, in Alaska. Frankly, if I was McConnell, I would not be too worried about any of this.
But for the rest of us, this should be good for laughs and more beyond parody ads like this one.

It’s nice that Mo Brooks thinks he can win that election. The voters don’t seem to like him, though.
PJ, right now the voters don’t know who they support, much less “like.” Brooks, Katie Britt and Mike Durant are ALL trying to position themselves as the biggest Trump supporter. Brooks has been running ads (well, technically, the “Club for Growth” special interest group has been running them) which link Britt with Liz Cheney and Britt’s association with another special interest group (the Business Council of Alabama–she was the president and CEO of the group) that dared to endorse “liberal Democrat Terri Sewell” (the only African-American and only Democratic member of the Alabama Congressional delegation–the BCA actually endorses Democrats AND Republicans, though in a competitive race between the two parties, the GOPer gets the nod) and then the ad winds up with Donnie Junior’s calling Britt the “Alabama Liz Cheney.”
An ad from Britt (or, more accurately, a PAC supporting her) has been attacking Brooks over his 2016 feelings towards Trump and his belief that voters would have a “tough choice” between Clinton and Trump.
Durant, on the other hand, has just basically been playing up his military service but still talking like a typical Trumpista on every issue. (Even though Trump never served in the military and even claimed he understood the pain and sacrifices made by service personnel because he had to avoid getting STDs during the 60s and 70s.)
Polling right now is split largely between Britt and Durant, but three recent polls sponsored by Britt’s campaign or pro-Britt groups have NOT seen Britt do all that well. Her own campaign sponsored a poll back at the end of January and she only got 29% of the 2088 likely voters (with a 2.1% margin of error) compared to Brooks’ 28% and Durant’s 23%. The first pro-Britt poll in early February sponsored by FarmPAC of 600 likely voters with a 4% margin of error saw Britt at 29% compared to Brooks’ 34% and Durant’s 24%; the most recent (done just a little over a week ago) sponsored by ForestPAC with 500 likely voters and a 4.4% margin of error saw Britt with 32% to Brooks’ mere 18% and Durant’s 34%.
Given we’ve still got 2 1/2 months to go before the primary, it’s still anyone’s game. And it could all come down to who gets Trump’s final endorsement. Brooks has gotten endorsements from Rand Paul and Ted Cruz as well as Marjorie Taylor Greene and Wendy Rogers. Britt’s got endorsements from Richard Shelby (she did work for him for a time), Joni Ernst, Shelly Moore Capito and Lindsey Graham. Durant’s only got endorsements from Michael Flynn and Ted Nugent (well, he’s got a couple others but they’re basically locals who aren’t really known outside the state).
Pretty soon the folks in MS will be able to say “at least we’re not Alabama”.
“weak-kneed debt junkie”?
Doesn’t that cover a lot of the GQP already?
