The entire world is wondering what happened to politics in America. Adam Kinzinger basically nails it, there are too many children in the job. And Kinzinger is not alone. His fellow Republican Ben Sasse remarked during the ordeal that was the confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson that there was “a lot of performative jackassery” in the chamber. He was sitting right next to Ted Cruz when he said that, which heightened the ridiculousness of the moment.
Thomas Jefferson is quoted as saying, “People get the government they deserve.” Woe is us if this is the government we deserve. If that’s the case, look for government of the people, by the people and for the people to perish from this earth, indeed.
Kinzinger’s right to be disgusted.
Instead of a tweet thread about the unseriousness of some members of Congress in this serious time, I just decided to tell you on video: pic.twitter.com/TPJfofOKra

He’s spot on. We are at a time in history where there is a hot war in Europe, atrocities are being committed on a daily basis, yet the members of his party are making headlines tweeting about Mickey Mouse and sex orgies and calling each other pro-pedophile.
And it is all traceable directly to Fox News. Maybe this is the moment that Roger Ailes was building towards. We will never know. But however pernicious Fox News may have seemed back a quarter of a century ago when it started, it was a mere shadow of the beast that it has morphed into today.
Kinzinger makes very good points here, but let us not forget that he voted against voting rights legislation. On the other hand, the fact that he voted to get rid of the most corrupt president in U.S. history is far more than other members of his party were willing to do.
I’m sorry Kinzinger is leaving politics. If people who see the truth of what is happening decide to leave, then where does that leave us? More childish people in office, still? More and worse Republicans? I shudder to even think.

Any country that can decide that multi-national companies are ‘people’ as per ‘Citizens United’ definitely deserves the best politicians that money can buy.
You REALLY need to get rid of a system where votes in Congress depend on corporate sponsorship (even if it’s called ‘campaign funds’).
Citizens United, gerrymandering, electoral college – every vote hasn’t counted for decades. What little remains of our “democracy” is being burnt to the ground by the oligarchs (Kochs, Mercers, et al) who have paid for control of our government in order to build their wealth at the expense of the citizenry. Imagine what could be done to improve peoples’ lives if all the money spent on campaigns and elections went to schools, hunger abatement, housing and health care?
Campaign contributions are the best money spent for the oligarchs and craporations. What they reap in tax bennies is obscene. They will continue to rape our democracy for their ill-gotten gains until it is completely gone or they are removed from existence. I myself prefer the latter.
