[Edit: No insult or discomfort intended to anyone regarding what happened in Minneapolis today.] Ever wonder why some people think in slow motion? Here it is, two days after Mr. Smith’s testimony, and folks are just now noting something he said. It’s disturbing. It’s also frightening. This is something you expect on a television series, not something that someone actually says. But it was said, and it was public, and it should be remembered! Raw Story:
During an appearance on MS NOW’s “The Weekend,’ Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) concluded his observations about former special counsel Jack Smith’s testimony before the House Judiciary Committee earlier this week by noting remarks Smith made about Donald Trump’s threats. According to Goldman, he fully expects to hear more from Smith about Donald Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election by inciting a riot at the Capitol. “I can assure you that he will not be afraid or intimidated to come back and to speak about his work during the deposition that we had in closed door,” he told co-host Jackie Alemany.
Donald Trump’s threats. I wasn’t very into politics at the time, but I remember this. Oh, do I remember this, and I’ll bet that you will, also. The arrogance of Trump started back with Obama and the birther nonsense. Yes, he was a nasty piece of work even back then. If anything, he’s worse now. Funny how you don’t think about something getting worse, and then realize it has.
“And at the hearing on Thursday, we tried to ask him about volume two. And repeatedly, he said, because of the [Judge Aileen Cannon] court order, he could not speak about it. I am confident he will come back in and speak about it, and he will not be deterred by Donald Trump’s increasingly deranged threats.” Moving on, he added, “The other thing I would note, Jackie, that was really kind of chilling, was when Jack Smith described the types of threats that Donald Trump made against witnesses during this investigation, which prompted the gag order.”
‘If you come after me, I’m coming after you.’ Remember this now? There is absolutely *no* possible way to misinterpret that. None. That’s a threat. It’s not something said in the heat of the moment. We can be sure that he meant it exactly like it sounded, too. That’s nerve-racking. Why in the hell was he that extreme?
“Now, the Republicans, of course, were claiming, ‘Oh, the gag order is to silence him during a campaign,”’ he elaborated. “Here was Donald Trump was literally threatening to kill or to have killed witnesses.” “That is the worst witness intimidation you can imagine,” he accused. “And so for him to then claim, ‘Oh, it’s my First Amendment right to threaten to kill people,’ especially after January 6th, where we know what his words mean and are interpreted, was very, very bone jarring.”
All together now: Gee, ya THINK?! This wasn’t just roughing people up to teach them a lesson. It was about actually *killing* someone. Oh HELL YES, the courts agreed that a gag order was necessary! (See Rep Cline’s whitewashing attempt I covered HERE.) Mr. Smith wasn’t concerned about himself because he is exponentially stronger than Trump, so Trump had to back down to him. It’s very hard to believe that Jack could be terrorized. Trump’s threats? It would be a good idea for us to remember this, just in case.
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
