The plot is thickening to the consistency of quicksand in this new GOP soap opera, Survivor: Kevin Or Liz? Conventional wisdom may have it that it is Liz Cheney who is in big trouble, because the Minority Leader is fed up with her, and she is expected to lose her job as soon as next Wednesday when the GOP conference meets. But here’s the latest plot twist: Tucker Carlson is feuding with Kevin McCarthy. He’s gone after McCarthy two nights in a row. If you’re having a deja vu, yes, Tucker Carlson went after Sidney Powell  and that was the end for her, too. This is from Carlson’s November 19, 2020 monologue, which marked the excommunication of Sidney Powell:

For more than a week, Powell has been all over conservative media with the following story: This election was stolen by a collection of international leftists who manipulated vote tabulating software in order to flip millions of votes from Donald Trump to Joe Biden. The other day on television, Powell said of Trump that when the fraud is finally uncovered, “I think we’ll find he had at least 80 million votes.” In other words, rigged software stole about seven million votes in this election.

On Sunday night, “Tucker Carlson Tonight” texted her after watching one of her segments. What Powell was describing would amount to the single greatest crime in American history. Millions of votes stolen in a day, democracy destroyed, the end of our centuries-old system of self-government. Not a small thing.

Now, to be perfectly clear, we did not dismiss any of it. We don’t dismiss anything anymore, particularly when it’s related to technology. We’ve talked to too many Silicon Valley whistleblowers and we’ve seen too much after four years on the air.  We literally do UFO segments, not because we’re crazy or even interested in the subject, but because there is evidence that UFOs are real and everyone lies about it. […]

So we invited Sidney Powell on the show. We would have given her the whole hour. We would have given her the entire week, actually, and listened quietly the whole time at rapt attention.

But she never sent us any evidence, despite a lot of polite requests. When we kept pressing, she got angry and told us to stop contacting her. When we checked with others around the Trump campaign, people in positions of authority, they also told us Powell had never given them any evidence to prove anything she claimed at the press conference.

Powell did say that electronic voting is dangerous, and she’s right, but she never demonstrated that a single actual vote was moved illegitimately by software from one candidate to another. Not one.

That took care of Sidney Powell. Right-wingnuttia washed their hands of her. Now, listen to what Carlson has to say about Kevin McCarthy. The first two minutes are a take down of Frank Luntz, then Carlson starts in on McCarthy.

This is a smear job, plain and simple. Frank Luntz has been around for a long time, as a pollster and Republican communications consultant. This is news that he’s suddenly enthralled to liberals in Big Tech. And then from there, to go to the amount of rent that Luntz collects from McCarthy and to end with how McCarthy is laughing at his voters? Pure smear.

And here’s the capstone on the pyramid. Tucker Carlson said that he got this as a “tip” from somebody of high credibility, so that means he’s got somebody doing oppo research on McCarthy. That would not be happening, unless McCarthy was about to go the way of Sidney Powell.

Please here’s another thought: Paul Ryan is on the board of Fox. Maybe he spoke with the Murdochs or vice versa? Just speculating.

Maybe it’s not in the cards for McCarthy to be Speaker of the House, when the political winds shift, as they always do, and he can move from Minority Leader to Speaker. If McCarthy can do it with Tucker Carlson sounding the alarm, “He’s not one of us, he’s a RINO,” I don’t see how. I think this Carlson smear is the kiss of death for McCarthy.

  1. No doubt about it, if this does NOT be a repeat of a successful bludgeoning of Sidney Powell, I would be very surprised …
Tucker Carlson, is one of the most vile snakes in media, I could not watch/listen to his drivel once without immediately comparing him to the late Limburger … what he says and how he says it, is like he is holding the hand of every MAGAT left in this sorry world and leading them straight into the hell that defines the current GOP … the Democrats are horrible do-wrongs, however he does not provide alternate ideas or working plans good for the people …

    • “… the Democrats are horrible do-wrongs…” What does this mean, Darrel? Do you mean “wrong-doers”? Please be specific. I really want to know what the Democratic Party, as an institution, has done wrong. I’ve heard so many false comparisons (the Democrats are as bad as the Republicans) that it upsets me anymore. Individual Democrats err at times, but as an institution I think the Democrats are trying to improve our standard of living and quality of life (unlike the Republicans). I do know that if you compare the number of persons from each administration since the time of Kennedy who have gone to prison for wrong-doing there is no competition. The Republicans have a significantly larger number behind bars than the Democrats. If memory serves me it’s something like 250 people from Republican administrations who have served time behind bars vs about 5 from Democratic administrations. This is easily confirmed by a little research. My point is to stop thinking that the Democrats are as corrupt as the Republicans are, because that just isn’t true!

      • In reference to the vile statements made by Tucker Carlson, the subject of my post … there is nothing wrong with the Democrats, they are NOTHING like the Republicans, and now, with all the GOP plundering of our voting rights and obvious non-platform, and their organization is split like a pea in soup … Tucker’s hit on McCarthy, like Ursula said, may be the last hurrah for McCarthy when Tucker is done with his attacks … Tucker will Never be done with his attacks on the Democrats …

Sorry for any misunderstanding … it’s a + and – thing with Carlson, this instance stirs the Republican base and it may keep them from going any deeper into our election problems …

  2. There is no GOP they’ve become “southern” republicans. Efff em all…! I’ll take A welcoming party and Pelosi anyday

    • Disabuse yourself of the notion that these people are confined to just my part of the world (see also Michigan if you doubt me). That said, my part of the world is where this incarnation of American conservatism will make its last stand. The historical irony of that development is boundless.

  3. What did I tell ya, folks? Liz Cheney was NEVER going to be in danger from this crowd. All she had to do was exploit the right people and resources and they were as good as defeated.

  4. That is the first time I have ever watched Tucker Carlson. I don’t think I will ever do that again, although this did give me a few laughs. I wonder what the truth actually is.
