Who knows what’s going on in Trump world for real? Mere days ago it was a fait accompli that Ron DeSantis was in and Pete Hegseth was out. Even Newsmax has gone full tilt at Hegseth, demanding that he withdraw from the nomination. This entire matter was expected to be handled by the end of today, Friday, December 6. But that didn’t take place toay. What did happen is that Trump has posted to Truth Social that Hegseth is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Then we find out from the Daily Beast that Kevin Roberts is putting up a cool $1Million because he says “GOP senators are out of step with the Trump agenda.”
The Heritage Foundation president said the group will be spending the money to convince GOP senators, some of whom are reportedly not sold on Hegseth, that he is the man for the Pentagon job. […]
Hegseth’s ascendancy to the defense seat hangs in the balance due to various accusations against him and his character, including an alleged sexual assault and claims that he would drink at work while at Fox News. He denies these claims.
It appears that Hegseth now has the backing of Project 2025.
“It’ll be messaging right now with their constituents about how out of step they are with the Trump agenda,” Roberts told AP of Republican senators who haven’t backed the former Fox & Friends Weekend host.
Roberts argued that criticism of Hegseth was being led by “the establishment” and said the second Trump term will be the “beginning of the golden era of America’s next chapter.”
“I think we’re in the middle of a re-founding of this country,” he said.
I agree with Roberts. I think this is a re-founding of the country, from a democracy to a fascist state. Who knows? Maybe Vladimir wants Hegseth to lead the Department of Defense. It would certainly serve his purposes, would it not? Nothing like a black out drunk in the chain of command. I’m sure Putey is howling over this one.
I guess at this juncture that something happened with the deal being brokered with Ron DeSantis. Maybe he didn’t want to just hand the Senate seat to Lara Trump. Maybe that’s where negotiations broke down. If that’s the case, then Trump could have tapped Joni Ernst to head the DoD and that would not have been a bad move. But it looks like now the decision has been made to send negative publicity to Ernst’s constituents. And you know Lindsey Graham will fold under pressure. That’s a given. I would never bank on Susan Collins although she is coming up for election in 2026 and may feel the heat.
Maybe those of you here with military backgrounds can opine on what’s about to happen. This is yet another unexpected curve. What will the military that Hegseth will be in charge of think of him? What will be their reaction to working under him? It’s above my pay grade, I would like to hear from those of you who know or can at least speculate from an informed position.

re-founding sounds right. one of the problems with declaring Trump’s picks unqualified is a misunderstanding of job descriptions. for decades or longer pretty much everyone would Essentially agree as to what these jobs entailed. those job descriptions are about to change radically. Linda McMahon and rfk Jr aren’t remotely qualified for the the jobs for which they are being considered. except when you change the descriptions of the jobs then yeah they are. they aren’t going to be expected to run their departments they will be expected to dismantle them, probably literally as well as figuratively. sell off the computers and office furniture and even the buildings. and then it won’t be any problem firing all the employees they just won’t have jobs to go to.
dod and doj are different. they will be torn down and remade into something new. doj will be re-purposed to persecute Trump’s enemies real or imagined as well as people on the left in general and recalcitrant folks on the right. think gestapo. dod will be the military arm of that. rounding up immigrants and shooting protestors and people trying to cross the border. Trump seems genuinely opposed to sending troops overseas to fight but Mexico or even Canada? maybe.
all of the people in these departments will be in fealty to Trump personally. bolton’s word and it’s a good one. but behind the scenes project 2025 has it’s own agenda and they are using Trump to achieve it. all they have to do is figure out how to transfer that fealty from an individual to a concept.
as for putin, I think he fits in somehow. he’s smart enough not to be overt but if he’s been talking to Trump he can nudge him where he wants. it wouldn’t hurt him to have hegseth in charge of the military but more importantly hegseth and Trump seem to have the same ideas about who the enemies are and how the military should be structured. I’m sure putin is giddy at the thought of Tulsi as dni. he would get everything we have on our friends and allies as well as our own stuff. a lot of our assets in eastern Europe disappeared last time Trump was in office, this time will probably finish them off.
that said, while I think putin still wants to get some use out of Trump I think his primary goal is the end oh the US as a world power. so think about this. when Trump is sworn in he will be the first us president in 80 years who will not automatically become the leader of the free world because we will no longer be a member of the free world.
sorry for droning on.
