You know, when not only former RNC Chair Michael Steele, but also James Carville, David Plouffe, and former FL GOP House member David Jolly all say that Traitor Tot is running, by far the worst presidential campaign in modern American history, you kind of have to just nod and say OK.
By now I’ve already covered the subjects of both coattails, as well as reverse coattails, so you’re all up to date. But since as I wrote earlier, the 2024 down ballot Democrats had no trouble separating themselves from an unpopular President Biden, then earnest GOP incumbents should be able to separate themselves as well.
Bull. And it was the former GOP FL representative David Jolly that brought it all into clear focus on MSNBC tonight. Jolly said that the last time he was on a ballot as an incumbent, it was in 2016 when Trump ran for President. And he was hamstrung by the fact that Traitor Tot left him nothing of substance to talk to his constituents about. He went down.
That was back in 2016, when Trumpism was in its infancy. There were still issues to discuss, but His Lowness overshadowed all of that. And still Jolly got Wookie stomped. But that was then, and this is now.
And in the now of 2024, the vast majority of the country is sick of the same old political bullsh*t. They want to talk about issues, and aspiration, and solutions, and not Thunderdome. And the Democrats are ready and loaded for bear with issues and solutions.
But the situation is even worse for the down ballot GOP, including state legislative races than it was for Jolly in 2016. After all, when Jolly lost his bid, Trumpism was in its infancy. And now it’s gone full blown MAGA.
For the last eight years now, the official GOP mantra to every question or issue has been, Yeah, whatever he says. Remember, at the 2020 GOP National Convention, the official platform of the GOP was Whatever Trump says.Â
And that’s why the GOP is in deep sh*t today. Not just the GOP House and Senate, but the down ballot state legislatures as well. Because for the last eight years, like the sycophants in the movie The Mummy, these brainless twits have just shambled around intoning Imhotep. Imhotep. Imhotep. And now it’s about to come around and bite them on the ass.
Remember the Blue Tsunami of 2018? I sure do. When ranks of everyday Americans gave up their day jobs to run for the House and make a difference Remember how they only took small money donations, and went into grocery stores, banks and Starbucks to actually talk to their constituents? And all the fat, happy, big money donor GOP incumbents could find to say was, Imhotep. Imhotep. Imhotep. It was a blowout.
And that’s the hidden figures to watch for this November on election night. The US House results are one thing, but look deeper. This is the second cycle since the SCOTUS overturned Roe v Wade, and a potentially whopping 13 states have pro choice initiatives on the ballot. And for many of these state voters, this will be the first opportunity they’ll have for payback for the *ssholes that saddled them with these dracnian laws in the first place,
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. These mental midgets have cruised along for eight years now without having to have a thought in their empty heads. But like the GOP slugs in 2017, who hadn’t had an actual opponent in years, they forgot how to campaign. Not only is that true in the state legislative races, but even more so in the US House races, where for the first time in years, swing state representatives will be facing pointed questions from actual voters, and not just opponents. Whatever you do, don’t touch that dial.
I thank you for the privilege of your time.
I was a journalism major in college in the seventies. Had a professor who would rip up a submission that had more than one typo…which meant that I had to retype and re-submit it.
Computers were just a glimmer on the horizon. I had a Royal manual typewriter that weighed about 400 pounds, which discouraged my frat brothers from wanting to borrow it.
Your missives are always riddled with typos. It’s been cathartic for me to ignore them and just go with what you actually meant to convey. Not getting hung up on incorrect spelling, capitalization, any of it.
I so enjoy your wonderful writing that I’ve dropped any judgmental thoughts about the errors.
I look forward to seeing your missives every time they pop up in my in box. Five bucks a month very well spent. Keep doing it, and keep being sloppy. I don’t mind. I enjoy every sentence.
Would you fucking PLEASE get a clue? We have told people who peruse the articles on P.Z. Murf has typing probs, is old, etc. I will quote Hawking: Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change. There’s a cute t-shirt on Geeksoutfit you should check out. Point is, I guess you can’t adapt to change which indicates you are just not that bright perhaps? hmmmm. Those of us with at least some working grey material between our ears figure out what he’s saying. ADAPT TO CHANGE.
Pay attention man-we get sick to death of folks bitching and moaning about Murf’s lack of spell-check skills. Get over it dude.
Spike, you’ve managed to miss the entire point and meaning of Eric Warp’s missive.
The Republican party today is a victim of its own success. Their agenda is perfect for Trump true-believers. The only problem is, there aren’t many Trump true-believers. Most Americans are not attracted to either Trump or the GOP agenda, which have become one and he same. Forget about liberals, today’s GOP has alienated a large number of conservatives. Trump controls the party so tightly that he decides everything, including about the campaigns. Nobody with any brains or any integrity will work for him, and frankly, he doesn’t even such people. He’s on his own, and as usual, he’s totally incompetent. As you point out so clearly here, that leaves the down-ticket candidates with nothing: exactly what they deserve for their unquestioned loyalty to this jerk.
There’s an old expression, “Money talks, bullshit walks.” Trump can get all the money he needs, but he’s so full of sh-t that even the money doesn’t talk — he can’t even make good use of it. A great deal is pissed away on his massive debts and fines. A great deal more is being siphoned off by the many grifters in his entourage. And what’s left is being wasted because Trump, whose life has always reflected broad-scale incompetence, has lost his mojo.
In another comment on another piece, I was remembering tRump’s first cabinet meeting. The sickening, weird way they all had to go around the table and kiss up to him. I’m thinking he didn’t have a clue of what to do with that group of people. He really is that incompetent.
What comes to.mind about that photo is the old meme:”
” But enough of me talking about how wonderful I.am. Time for you to talk about how wonderful I am.”
Competent staff tell you when something is wrong and good bosses listen. Bad bosses fire competent staffers who.tell them the truth. Trump went through competent staff like a using a box of Kleenex in flu season.
Eric…you’re not the first nor will you be the last. Murf has vision issues so that’s why I don’t even notice the typos. I don’t have vision issues but still screw up occasionally. Glad you have joined our ragtag but insightful group. I learn something here daily. I know I’m an acquired taste, but you can easily skip my frustration with the inhabitants of this planet. Reading Murf is like going to a class on politics.
Scotty, now I’m “rag tag”. I LOVE it!!! Thanks buddy. I love you more every day, but now you just made me laugh and smile. What a fantastic adjective. I could never have self-described any better. Have a GREAT day, my fellow rag tag friend! 🙂
There are many times when I feel like a low level support character in our ragtag band. We even have a Mon Motha and a Han Solo.
We’ll see Murf. Fat lady hasn’t done her song yet. Shit is still gerry-mandered to hell and back. We got squat if we don’t get the house, senate and w.h. blue and those red states out there are all ready to fuck us up in their legislatures. We can hope but that’s about all.
Now you’re talking. Not mere gerrymandering now but full-on infliltration of Fifth Column traitors within the election process. Rolling Stone cites at least 70 corrupt officials now in positions of power in their states’ electoral organisations. They’re primed and ready to disrupt the results on election day and I’m not sure we’re prepared for them. This is a far more serious risk to our democracy than a riot on 6 January was, because it’s inside.
Jarvis…hopefully now that they’ve broadcast their intentions, there are legal remedies being discussed by people in power to stop them. Merrick…are you listening or are you going to sit on your thumbs like you did almost two phucking years in dealing with criminal Trump, delaying justice?
