This certainly didn’t take long. Within a few minutes, in fact, of the announcement that Donald Trump and the RNC had made nice nice over his name and likeness in their fundraising efforts, it was announced that guess what? The spring conclave of major Republican donors would be heading on over to Mar-a-Lago for their big Saturday night dinner next month. Surprise, surprise. Washington Post:

The Republican National Committee is moving part of its spring donor retreat next month to Mar-a-Lago from a nearby hotel for a dinner speech that will be headlined by former president Donald Trump, according to Republicans involved in the planning of the event.

The move, which highlights the former president’s continued grip over the GOP, comes amid a spat over the use by RNC and other Republican organizations of Trump’s likeness and image in fundraising, as well as anxiety about how Trump plans to use his influence in the 2022 midterms.

The weekend retreat in early April for the party’s most influential donors will be at a luxury hotel in Palm Beach, as in past years. But the RNC has decided to move the Saturday evening portion of the schedule to the former president’s private club to accommodate Trump and guests who would like to visit the site, according to officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the plans.

The national party will sign a contract with Mar-a-Lago to host the event and will be paying Trump’s club for the use of the facilities and the meal, according to Republican involved in the planning, who declined to share the size of the fee.

As stated before, it’s very costly to sell one’s soul to the Devil, but the RNC doesn’t seem to have any choice. If they had stopped using Trump’s name and likeness, the money would have dried up. Right now the bulk of the small donations that they get are from people who believe the Big Lie and believe that Trump is coming right back and running again. They don’t want to disillusion those people.

As for Trump, he’s desperate for cash, so he’s playing all the angles. He’s got the RNC where he wants them and he’s also looking to put together some kind of a media outlet, possibly streaming online and make millions off of subscriptions. This is all going to get a lot stranger, just wait.

Help keep the site running, consider supporting.

      • No salary? He took months worth of vacations at taxpayer’s expense, billed the Secret Service for use of his hotels. He made millions off of being president. His paltry paycheck was no great gift back to the country. He cost far far more than anybody else who has ever held that job.

  1. It should be interesting to see what happens to the fund-raising if the Georgia and New York Attornies General let slip the dogs of justice beforehand

  2. Has any of them stopped to think of the irony that they are giving money to a self professed “billionaire” and why would a “billionaire” be short on cash in the first place???

    Rhetorical question.

  3. It seems that, in all the Party’s efforts to badmouth lawyers (by supporting all the various tort “reform” measures across the county), the Party’s lost any lawyers it may have had. There is NO legal reason that the RNC can’t use Trump’s name and/or likeness to their hearts’ content in their advertising and fundraising: He was the Party’s standard bearer for the last 5 years and, as such, made himself the literal face of the Party. The ONLY time the Party won’t use one of its party names in its various exercises is when the Party is actually embarrassed by the person (as with Dubya–after 2006, you didn’t hear too much RNC advertising using Bush as an endorsement).

But, for crying out loud, if anyone deserves big bucks from the RNC, it’s the Reagan estate. The RNC made tens (if not hundreds) of millions of dollars using Ronald Reagan’s name AND likeness and I never heard a single complaint from Reagan. Bear in mind, Reagan was still President when the first issues about using the likenesses and images of dead celebrities for commercial gain without necessarily paying anyone for the use were starting to make the rounds. It was also the era when talent agencies started springing up, contacting the surviving families of dead celebrities to represent their “interests” by licensing out the celebrities’ names and likenesses. But, then again, Reagan was a real conservative, Republican politician–he wasn’t just in it for the “publicity.” As much as I despised and loathed Reagan, he would NEVER have even thought of holding his party “hostage” for the sake of a few bucks.

It’ll be pretty interesting in the next election cycle to see which GOP candidate during the primary is able to afford to get Trump’s endorsement. And then to see which “losing” GOP candidate is first to denounce Trump’s “pay-for-play” and sue to get reimbursed any “donation” he’d made for the endorsement.

    • He gave his Social Security to the people? Where are you getting this? Yes, he gave his paycheck, which was tiny compared to the amount of money he scammed when he was in office. That was the equivalent of giving somebody a dollar from your pocket, while you pickpocket their wallet and watch with your other hand — but you people bought it. Saint Donald. I love it.

  4. Trump’s trips didnt even begin to compare with Obama’s Hawaii trips. At least Trump
didn’t give Taxpayers money to Iran to build nuclear bombs (in cash in the middle of the night) Biden is cognitively
Impaired and everyone in the democratic party should be sued along with his wife, family, O’Bama and his doctors for ttrying to conceal it from the American public. They have used this man to push their agenda. Such a shame!

    • It’s always nice to have someone like you drop by for comic relief. Obama didn’t give Iran loads of cash. That’s one of Trump’s lies. Oh, why do I bother?

      • Sad but so true. I agree this party has turned our country to the biggest mess in our history n it will go down in history when the greedy Democrats tried to take over America, it looks bad now, it is bad but we r coming together with this n will stand tall again’t. We know Soros Gates, n obimbo along with Hillary r doing this but we will finish this hopefully soon
