In early versions of this song, “my true love sent” me the gifts. However, a 20th-century variant has “my true love gave to me” and this wording has become particularly common in North America. In one 19th-century variant, the gifts came from “my mother” rather than “my true love”.
The gifts associated with the final four days were often reordered. For example, the pipers may be on the ninth day rather than the eleventh. The pipers, however, miss out entirely in this version. So without further ado, let’s see what the Furkids have for their Eleventh Day.

The kiddos missed yesterday’s edition, so today’s was a double feature. The two year old can identify all the animals, and gives them names. The three year old wanted to know if the silky chicken is the mother of the 10 dancing chicks (yes, yes she is). Who is the mother of the 11 purrrfect kittens? (They go to kitten daycare, so there are lots of moms.) I’ll let their mother sort that one out.
Were we this astute when we were that young? I don’t remember. But I do remember the magic of Christmas. The furkids bring some of that magic, and our gift is seeing it through children’s eyes.
