This has been the week from Hell for Jerry Falwell, Jr. I mean, can’t a guy even go out on his own yacht and party anymore? Sheesh. If you missed the festivities earlier in the week, Falwell inprudently, shall we say, shared “vacation photos” of himself and a young woman in stages of undress. That was bad enough. Then he got on the radio a few days later and really dug his own grave and jumped in. New Civil Rights Movement:
Falwell, Jr. then called into a local Virginia radio station, explaining the woman his arm was wrapped around was his wife’s assistant.
“You know it was weird, cause she was, she’s pregnant, she couldn’t get her pants up, and I was, trying to like – my, I had on a pair of jeans I haven’t worn in a long time so I couldn’t get mine zipped either,” Falwell told WLNI. “And so I just put my belly – I just put my belly out like hers, and it was just, um, she’s my wife’s assistant and she’s a sweetheart. I should never have put it up and embarrassed her because, um, anyway, I’ve apologized to everybody and I promised my kids, I’m gonna try to be a good boy from here on out.”
Rep. Mark Walker (R-NC) called Falwell’s behavior “appalling,” and called for him to step down.
The excuse is even stupider than the obvious misconduct. It puts me in mind of a local story I read about a drunk who had set fire to the bed he was in and caused damage to the entire floor of a cheap hotel. The drunk kept vociferously denying that he had set fire to the bed. The judge finally asked in exasperation, “So, Mr. Collins, you’re saying that the bed was on fire when you got into it?”
Sometimes you’re just better off telling the truth and taking your lumps.
But Falwell should look on the bright side. This isn’t as bad as the scandal shortly after he took over as president of Liberty University where he urged students at a 2015 convocation to carry concealed weapons so they could “end those Muslims before they walked in,” after a mass shooting in San Bernadino.
Say, is there work available in the pool cleaning business? Anybody know?

I’m just mean to suggest that wife’s assistant, who was obviously a stunt double on Married With Children, got pregnant by Junior in the first place.
From what I recall when I clicked on posts about that picture if she’s pregnant she sure as hell hasn’t started to show it. Hell, if it’s true she’s at an early enough stage she might not have even announced it – some women prefer not to until they are well along in a pregnancy. Then there’s the possibility that he’s going to pressure her to protect his story by getting pregnant – volunteering of course to take care of the male’s part of the process. THAT seems perfectly in line with this sleazebag’s style! I however actually think it was just another of the kinds of photos he’s infamous for, something to keep on his cell phone for his pals as a kind of “check her out – and ‘heh heh’ you can guess what we’d been up to/were about to do!” Hell, if she really is pregnant he might even have (while bragging to his buddies) tossed in a “the best part is since she was already pregnant I didn’t have to worry about that so I didn’t have to use a condom!” That too is about his style. Well, like others have suggested I’m wondering how many parents are going to hold their kids out of attending Liberty University. I suspect it’s a significant number – or that the Board has heard from a significant enough number of parents that if Falwell was still there (at Liberty) then their kids (and therefore the parent’s money) would NOT be! I’ll be alumni were raising hell too. Not that a bunch of them aren’t just as sleazy as Falwell himself, but this is some seriously bad PR at a time when all universities are struggling and despite who his daddy was the powers-that-be can’t afford Jerry Jr. anymore.
Am I crazy, or mean to look forward to the day when like Trump we will see some of those fancy toys like private jets, yachts, vacation homes etc. auctioned off? Because I can see the “good” powers-that-be at Liberty University doing a major retooling of the institution’s image. The image mind you. They won’t change their decidedly non-Christian “Prosperity Gospel” message and fucked up political stuff. No sir. But I CAN see them recognizing they need some serious rebranding, and looking at how much damage their fealty to Trump has cost “evangelical” Christianity having the face of Liberty playing Trump’s Mini-Me is going to require a serious makeover.
It didn’t look like her pants were too small to zip and button. His- maybe, but I doubt it. Who carries around clothes they can’t wear?
