Well, Kari Ann Lake (yes, that’s her real middle name hence that oldies song) finally got herself a chance to try her Arizona election “fraud” case in an actual courtroom.  And boy was she gonna get all those folks who have been denying her her “rightful” place in the AZ Governor’s office!  She had witnesses, and a “bigly” STAR witness that was gonna blow the lid off shoddy vote counting and force the results to be thrown out.  And at the very least get her a do-over on the election!

Turns out there was a bit of a problem with her witness list.  Her lawyer called out the “big gun”, the star witness right out of the gate.  The witness who was going to prove Lake’s case, and testify that hundreds of thousands of ballots in Maricopa County had to be tossed out because of… Ignoring, rushing through verification, improper supervision, lack of following procedures – take your pic.  Or all of that stuff.  The point was that Lake had a witness who would testify UNDER OATH that Lake has been right all along, and that the fix was in to count a boatload of ballots that should have been tossed out.  That she would have WON dammit if proper verification of ballots had taken place and those hundreds of thousands of ballots that were allowed through the verification process had been rejected like they should have been.

So the “star witness” takes the stand and under direct questioning (direct as in by Lake’s attorney) set about systematically testifying to the rigorous training those who’d be screening ballot signatures got.  How procedures were in fact followed.  The review process for questionable ballots – and that it too was followed.  That everything was done properly, by the book and properly supervised.

Ouch!

From the linked article I’m not sure if the defense even bothered with a cross examination.  As this and other articles indicated Lake’s star witness turned out to be a star only for the defense!   If that wasn’t bad enough, instead of asking for a recess and falling back to regroup Lake’s lawyer pressed ahead with a second witness.  Who confirmed the “star witness’s” testimony.

Double Ouch!

Ah, but Lake’s lawyer had a video!  One that would prove her allegation that only a few seconds were being taken to screen signatures!  THAT would for sure turn things around.  And to be fair the video did show a single worker rushing the process and not making what any reasonable person would consider a good faith effort to properly verify the signatures.

Except it turned out election supervisors noticed it and fired that guy on the spot!

Some are saying Lake’s case was over (and lost) within the first few hours.  Or should have been.  This is Kari Lake however and despite having deployed her biggest bombs she’ll keep throwing wet, sputtering firecrackers until they drag her out of court after she loses.

I know, it’s not nice to take joy in someone else’s misfortune.  To which I say PFFFFFTTT!

Lake’s humiliation has been entirely self-inflicted.  She could have made a defiant speech upon losing, even one saying things weren’t fair and that she’s certain she actually won but that Democrats cheated and still perhaps had a political future.  After all any fool could see Sinema would have zero chance at being re-elected or even make it out of a primary BUT she could (and might) run independently/third Party and split off enough of the vote for a Republican to sneak through to a win next year.  But Nooooooooo!

Lake has continued to as they say “show her a$$” to the point where fellow Republicans long ago openly made it clear she’d exit stage right.  Take a job with Fox or some other RWNJ outlet.  Of course, these days Fox is a tad skittish about playing up election denialism but for a while there a nice fat contract was hers for the taking.  Now she’s an embarrassment to the Arizona GOP.  That my friends is saying something.  A Party that seemingly has a pill people take every day so as not to feel shame is ashamed of Lake!

So I’m enjoying the hell out of the fact Lake’s star witness shot down Kari Lake’s case.  Or torpedoed it.  Or buried it.  Pick your metaphor.  And don’t feel the least bit guilty if like me the implosion of her court case was so swift and spectacular.

  1. I read the account on another site. Kari is finding out being a TV person is no guarantee your bull will pass the smell test. I can’t fathom how a licensed attorney wouldn’t know what his witness would say in court. I realize there are qualitative differences in individuals in every profession, but these past years have exposed the underbelly of the legal profession. I can hear Graham Nash in my head.

    • I wondered about the competence of Lake’s attorney, too. Maybe the star witness(es) assured Lake that they would support her story, and then suddenly realized that lying under oath is a CRIME punishable by (gasp!) some period of INCARCERATION. That makes more sense to me than someone who passed the bar exam not knowing what Lake’s chief witnesses would say.

    • I thought about going with the actual words in the song because they work for this whole mess too! But I knew us older folks would get it and hoped that younger folks have heard the song a few times. It was a catchy tune. I also thought about going with a Hindenburg theme for the article because her case went up in flames and crashed almost as spectacularly!

    • Denis, WHAT younger folks? Ursula could tell us for sure, but I’m 61 and I thought I WAS the younger folk in this group 🙂

    • Loved that song growing up. And now, I think it’s clear what Carrie Anne’s Kari Ann’s game is – Election Denial!

  2. I live in Arizona. I am tired of that evil women. So are all other Arizonans. The only reason that Lake wanted to be Governor was for the power she would get. She would have totally destroyed the entire state. She is going to spend the rest of her life complaining that the election was rigged against her and that she is the rightful Governor.

    • If she’d done what I suggested she might have done which is limit her tantrum some and to election night followed by a month or two of toned down complaints to Fox & others she could have parlayed that into a nice fat gig as a conservative talking head. As I said given what happened with Carlon she’d be de-platformed too but also like him with a good contract Fox would still be paying her. To do nothing! But she blew it by becoming a bitter gadfly. Probably cost herself a couple million bucks. Good. I hope someday the realization sets in to her when she’s struggling to have even a middle class lifestyle how badly she screwed the pooch.
