Trump demands all workers return to their buildings to work. No telework is possible anymore … except it can’t be helped. Employees are coming back into chaos. No lights, no desks, no chairs, no office supplies, just a total lack of anything to do with a place for people to work. Bathroom cleanings are changed to once a day, carpet cleaning is once a month, and the list goes on. Nasty stuff.
Mr Elon Muskrat was all smug about closing office leases and saving the government money. It’s hard to do that under an RTO policy when you have nowhere for people to be. And it’s even better if you need to make or take confidential calls back in the office. Everyone is crammed together like so many sardines. And how about the workers who are in specific telework only positions. Do they even *have* somewhere to go?
If I’m on remote only in one of the wide open spaces like, say, Kansas, I’m not going to drive potentially hundreds of miles to get to an office. That one’s a no brainer – find something else (hopefully) if the full remote position is a no go. There really ought to be an exception for the 10% of the full remote workforce. Or, they’ll just get fired because *everyone* MUST return to an office.
What if you don’t HAVE an office because DOGE has terminated the lease there? They have to get a new one and get the space up and running before workers can be there. It will cost a lot more money than management might think it will – or DOGE will think it might be. That’s going to cause delays for RTO that are not the worker’s fault!!! And if they get terminated because of that, I can see more lawsuits in the future. They’ll have to hope and find a lawyer who will take the case on as one of those, if they win, they get paid, but don’t charge if they lose. You could go poke around the law library at Cornell for fun. They have a *bunch* of stuff online.
So there are about a gazillion places that aren’t ready for re-occupancy and running the gamut of issues. tRump wants everyone back in the offices, but didn’t think about the setup they will need. They didn’t think about privacy issues. They didn’t think about sardines. They didn’t think about how much just a single worker will need to perform their job function. And how about safety and fire regulations?
They didn’t think. What a mess.
