Yes, seriously. Trump voters are not happy with the possibility that he could be the other Senator for Texas, and they are not holding back about it. That seems a bit harsh, but for the people in Texas, it might not be harsh enough, so we’ll leave it at that. The Bulwark released audio clips, and it was not pretty.
This writer has been hammering on Paxton since the day he won his primary, thanks to Trump. Paxton screws up in major ways and then gets caught out on said screw-ups. He can’t have a good rep in Texas, but Trump wanted him, so people apparently assumed they should vote for him. Now they are finding out how much of a mistake it was.
And by the way, what the hail is Trump doing, abusing Paxton about how he dresses and how he looks? That’s *completely* uncalled for when he chose the candidate.  It has to be depressing, insulting, just generally ridiculous. There’s no need for it at all. We don’t know how Trump got started with this, because sure, it may have been funny once, but after that it gets abusive. Trump will never notice. He thinks he’s just joking around.
For a change of pace, let’s hear from Raw Story, with many thanks:
President Donald Trump supporters think Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is a “toilet bowl” of a politician, according to a new analysis. “If that’s the best we can do, does it really even matter?” one Trump voter said. “Like a toilet bowl flushing, we’re going down, down, down.” Other problems include an indictment for securities fraud, efforts to protect convicted felon real estate mogul Nate Paul, Paxton’s lenient plea deal for a man accused of child sex abuse, and his efforts to ban cannabis while accepting campaign cash from the alcohol industry.
That is not small. Add in the affairs he had while still married. And his corrupt time as AG for Texas. And being impeached. He *looks* slimy, like one of those adults your parents asked you to stay away from and actually tells you why. Everyone has been told about one, if not more. Where did Paxton start his downhill slide? It has to be many years, not a few. How did Trump know about him, and why did he choose him? What is it we’re not seeing? There has to be something, right? How do people get that corrupted? Does it start with looking the other way on something and then just get worse? So many unanswered questions.
This man makes no sense. It’s as if he’s proud of all his grifting and corruption, and that’s why Trump chose him. We also know it was because Trump was pissed that Cornyn said no to him. Texas will not be happy with this disaster if Paxton wins. Here are some more comments for you:
“I think he’s a full-blown crook right in line with Trump as far as not being able to tell the truth,” one woman said. “Politicians are very dirty and corrupt.” //// “I am so turned off by Ken Paxton,” another said. “I don’t know that I can vote for [state Rep. James] Talarico, who I think is a very attractive guy, you know, a hardworking guy who loves God and country and his family and all that sort of stuff. //// Hooks, the Texas journalist, suggested Texas Republicans might be more likely to vote for Talarico, or not at all, because Paxton has failed to prove his defeat would represent a serious problem for the state.
“What Ken Paxton is telling conservative voters right now is that if the Democrats get in this election, like, the Democrats are going to win forever here, and it’s going to be a blue state and there’s no coming back,” Hooks said. “But I think a lot of Republicans have the sense that if Ken Paxton loses this, it’s because Ken Paxton sucks.” Texas Republicans ultimately don’t believe Talarico will “permanently derail” their coalition — but they have a lot of quiet concerns that Paxton might, said Hooks. And it’s because of Trump.
I decided to include a bit more of the quotes from the article than usual so you could enjoy them, too. There’s still more to the Raw Story article, as well.
There’s about the proverbial snowball’s chance in hell that the state would turn blue or that the seat would stay blue. Talarico winning would give us the chance to prove that a blue Senator can work in Texas just as well as a red one. What Paxton is doing is ringing the fire engine bell when there’s no fire. He’s trying to scare people into voting for him, and if the sample responses are correct, it’s not going to work. With any luck, it will backfire on him. Some people may cross the aisle and vote for Talarico. Others won’t vote at all. We have to hope (and believe) this is going to come out in Talarico’s favor, and Paxton will be left on the side of the road in the dust, wondering what happened and what hit him.
