You remember the book, How To Win Friends and Influence People, which was the seminal text for the Human Potential Movement? Madison Cawthorn could write one called “How To Make Enemies and Piss Everybody Off” and it wouldn’t even be a parody of the Napoleon Hill classic, it would be legitimately the story of Cawthorn’s life, and beyond that, it would contain all that Cawthorn knows about living, nothing more, nothing less.

If you want some good, comical reading in the Political Revenge genre, go to the Smokey Mountain Daily News and read the whole thing. Here are highlights. They will bring a smile to your lips.

Saying in a leaked recording that “we all want the ultimate goal of him never serving again,” Lisa Wiggins, a former caseworker and campaign aide to Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-Henderson) has filed an employment-related campaign against the embattled congressman. […]

Wiggins said in the call that she’d advance claims involving violations of the Family and Medical Leave Act, which entitles eligible employees to “unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons,” according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

In the call Wiggins said she was denied leave when her uncle passed away and her husband had a heart attack during the same week.

I don’t see how Cawthorn can wiggle out of this one. Death is easily verifiable. When she proves that she was under that level of stress and was denied leave, to which she was guaranteed under the law, this is going to be an additional two black eyes for Cawthorn. Now of course his current aides have denied it all and are accusing the former aide of slander, and we’ll see how that flies.

She also said that Cawthorn had closed all of his district offices except for the Hendersonville office, and was using call forwarding to consolidate constituent service calls.

“I know that because I drove and closed them all,” she said. “He didn’t have enough caseworkers to man them. He didn’t care, he doesn’t care about his constituents. He does not care.”

“If you come from Cherokee County you’re driving five hours to see your congressman,” Wiggins said. “But you can’t see your congressman anyway when you go to the office. There’s no way you can get a meeting with him unless he’s trying to pull some votes and that’s about the only way.”

Sounds like the guy we all know and hate, alright.

Wiggins went on to make a number of other claims against her former employer, including more liquor bottles in the Hendersonville office than water bottles, and that she hadn’t seen the congressman she worked for since October. […]

“As far as the candidate himself, I mean, he’s just a bad person. He’s a habitual liar and he’s going to say and do anything he can to your face but behind your back he’s completely opposite,” she said. “There’s some good stories I have – a lot of good stories.” […]

“The main goal here is that he does not get that 30 plus 1 percent,” she said. “I don’t feel like he’s gonna get it. I just don’t feel like he’s gonna run away with it on May 17.”

The Fire Madison Cawthorn PAC endorsed another Cawthorn challenger, Republican Wendy Nevarez, and has encouraged Democrats to re-register as unaffiliated in advance of the April 22 deadline to vote against Cawthorn in the Republican Primary Election.

“The ultimate goal of course is to get him out,” Wiggins said. “I’m working harder here than I did for his campaign two years ago, and I mean, I worked really hard two years ago.”

How I wish her well. Cawthorn is besieged right now and he did it to himself. He went to run in another district, and then the district up and disappeared with the stroke of a pen. He has lied, overspent, antagonized people, disgraced his party, you name it. It comes as no surprise that he’s a bad employer as well. The surprise would be if he was a good one.

Let’s see what the Roman scholar, French chef, man of God, is doing May 17. I hope he goes down in flames.

  1. I am shocked, shocked that man-baby Maddie has no idea how to do his job. /s
What I don’t understand is why anyone who had done the most basic background check thought this guy was qualified. He was home-schooled (no offense to home schoolers, but most parents are not qualified), washed out of college after one pathetic semester and the stories that were well circulated about his behavior during that one semester should have been disqualifying. It really doesn’t matter if they are successful keeping him off the ballot or not, he’s embarrassed NC enough that he has no hope of reelection.

    • From your lips to God’s ear. Seriously. I hope it goes down that way. If Cawthorn had two brain cells functioning, he would have realized that he lucked into an incredibly fortunate position and he would be working hard for people, making a difference. He has NONE of that. He’s a child and the House seat is his toy.

    • The fact he was elected the first time indicates to me his constituents either A) do not give a happy rat’s ass, or B) approve of his behavior. Now, do they approve of the job he’s done? Guess we’ll find out but I’m afraid they might care more that he peddles the big lie and supports overturning democracy.

  2. How to Win Friends and Influence People was written by Dale Carnegie and first published in 1936. Napoleon Hill wrote Think and Grow Rich, published in 1937.
