They may have finally admitted they are in trouble, and it started with Texas. Texas and its horrible candidate chosen by Trump, except Trump is being really nasty to him now, and it’s confusing. Why would he do that to someone he chose? Is he regretting Paxton? That doesn’t sound like something he would do. Trump never regrets anything.
But Republicans? All across the country, they are removing anything related to Trump, scrubbing web pages and tweets because he is anathema to the voters in America. The campaign signs are quietly coming down and being thrown away. Trump doesn’t care about America, and he has shown us this, with multiple events getting progressively worse.
Republicans are sweating. For those on the ballot, they know they’re in trouble. When *Texas* is a toss-up, that does not bode well for the rest of the country. Republicans just dropped $50 million on campaign ads for Paxton. They will have to waste money on him that could certainly be put to use elsewhere. We knew this as soon as he won the primary. He was compared to a toilet bowl yesterday. Yikes. There is *nothing* to like about Ken Paxton that we have seen up to this point.
Yes, Republicans are sweating. Their crystal ball is showing they will get wiped out at midterms. They are scrambling and panicking. They should have thought about midterms at the beginning of this year. They didn’t. They were relaxed and complacent. But they didn’t pay enough attention to what Trump was doing (see: Trump hijacking the 250th birthday of our country and turning it into a Trump Rally, then the fireworks that caused air quality alerts for days).

The Republicans just gave the clearest signal yet that they know the midterms are going to be disastrous, according to one GOP strategist. Mike Madrid, a GOP strategist, argued in a new Substack post that the ad buy signals that Republicans know they are hemorrhaging support in one of their strongholds. “Texas is in play. That’s undeniable now,” Madrid wrote. “Even the most rock-ribbed Republican pundit can’t deny that the GOP is in trouble in the Lone Star state.
Can Republicans win? Sure they can. Can Talarico still win? Sure he can.” “But it gets worse for the GOP. They are hemorrhaging GOP vote support. Trump Fatigue Syndrome (TFS) is real, and people are tired of the schtick,” Madrid wrote. “This isn’t just about Texas,” he added. “This is about a broad-based decline in every demographic in the country. Trump is gaining support with literally no one.”
Most of us are tired of Trump. People are leaving MAGA, and that is a *huge* sign of how far down he has fallen. His polls are, on average, running in the low 30s. There are some areas where it’s worse, and some where he might approach 40. But we are tired of the bullsh!t and Republicans are finding out the hard way. They have been too content and smug since it was an all Republican Congress and president. They rested on their “laurels”, and now they are most emphatically facing the fact that they screwed up, and Trump screwed up even worse (see, hello: Forever War of Iran)
Republicans are abandoning America First since Trump seems to have forgotten that – another broken promise, and we’ve given up on counting the lies. There’s certainly a list somewhere. Republicans are paying more attention to the people like they should have done a long time ago. Is it too late for them to change? Who knows. It looks like they’re going to try. That may or may not be worth something. Republicans are sweating rivers.
