The AP has released a story indicating that the US government is now establishing facilities in order to detain infants and younger children that they’ve abducted from their parent(s).

Trump administration officials have been sending babies and other young children forcibly separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border to at least three “tender age” shelters in South Texas, The Associated Press has learned.

Lawyers and medical providers who have visited the Rio Grande Valley shelters described play rooms of crying preschool-age children in crisis. The government also plans to open a fourth shelter to house hundreds of young migrant children in Houston, where city leaders denounced the move Tuesday.

Decades after the nation’s child welfare system ended the use of orphanages over concerns about the lasting trauma to children, the administration is standing up new institutions to hold Central American toddlers that the government separated from their parents.

Rachel Maddow was handed this breaking news at the end of her show tongith. She started to read it but kept choking back tears. She eventually gave up and had to turn over to Lawrence O’Donnell.

Watch:

You can’t blame Maddow for getting emotional. This Trump administration policy is inhumane and it gets more so by the day. Our hearts are with you, Rachel.

Update: Afterward Maddow tweeted out this apology:

No need to apologize for being human.

  1. Even a casual survey of contemporary brain research demonstrates the vital role the first 5 years in childhood development and the devastating (often permanent) damage abuse and/or neglect on the child’s personality development. From my view, the administration (from the yellow-bellied sh*t gibbon on down the executive ladder) are guilty of crimes against humanity and should be prosecuted in the world court. This is the saddest times in American history since the Japanese internment at the beginning of WW II.
