“If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.” — Dwight D. Eisenhower

Lindsey Graham has the gift of prophecy. Maybe when this is all over he can become a wingnut preacher. Remember what he said in May, five years ago? “If we nominate Trump we will get destroyed….and we will deserve it.” Absolutely pitch perfect, Linseed. Thank you.

It’s pretty much evident that the GOP has gotten destroyed and what stands in its place is the party of Trump. If Liz Cheney’s fall from grace, for telling the truth and refusing to stash January 6 under the table and forget about it didn’t teach you that, take a look at this latest gem from the Lincoln Project. They pull together the threads nicely.

We have two pandemics going on in this country. One, is the coronavirus and that seems to be pretty much under control now. The other is disinformation and that is running rampant and metastasizing. And the New Republicans, the MAGA Trumpists and their megaphones of mendacity, the right-wing media, are the carriers and spreaders of that disease. And that may be the one that kills us, ironically enough, not the mutant virus.

Do you recall this jewel? This will send chills up your spine. Hadn’t seen it in a while, but it still has that effect on me.

Just for the record, this is the only time I’ve been able to listen to Ted Cruz without wanting to throw a shoe at the screen.

They knew, but they decided to throw it all overboard for power. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Yes. And David Frum was right, “Maybe you do not care much about the future of the Republican Party. You should. Conservatives will always be with us. If conservatives become convinced that they can not win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. The will reject democracy.”

That’s it. Power. If democracy goes, so be it. This is what our founding fathers never foresaw. They always believed that men and women of good moral character and the desire to maintain democracy in this country would be in office. They couldn’t know about the hypnotic power of television, where somebody charismatic and generating the right image is imbued with abilities and knowledge that s/he does not possess — but people believe s/he does, because s/he’s on television, the highest altar that this world recognizes.

In many ways, that was the Big Lie, Trump during the campaign. Trump lied about who and what he was and even though the Republicans saw through him like glass, they put him at the top of their ticket. They made a circus out of democracy. And now we are where we are. And the people you saw in that second video are some of Trump’s biggest toadies.

  1. Its really not surprising money=power, I truly feel this stage was set at Citizen United vs FEC, when Dark money and Corporate America became citizens.
Its laughable of course but it’s the law. If you were puzzled why Mitch McConnell was stacking the lower courts, be puzzled no more. The Supreme Court has become legislative which was never its intention, its role as interpreter of the Constitution is selective at best. The Federalist Society…

    Child please

  2. Not to mention we have lost all respect around the world . We have to start being more careful who we put in office , and start acting like we have some sense . It’s going to take years to fix this country, if we actually can.

  3. I contend that folks like Frum and Wilson care about the Republican party’s future because it will directly affect them first…and that’s really it. If Liz Cheney was already in charge of what’s left of the American conservative movement (and at the rate she’s going, she’ll have it by end of the decade, you heard it from me first), they’d fall right in line and be doing the same ugly stuff the Trumpistas have, just quieter. The difference between Al Capone and his cousin Frank Nitti is that the latter knew how to be discreet. The methods and goals were just the same. So I don’t give a damn if they ALL fall down.

    • You can take a regulation set of dominoes, paint the faces of known worthless GOP’ers on their very own domino, line them up and start the tipping over at one end, as in real life, the speed of the falling over is quite impressive … once these dorks start taking flack on the national stage their rubber knees will fail because someone like Liz Cheney stands as a strong-willed messenger of the truth, the BS crew will shrivel up and blow away. I like your idea about how she might become the star, but methods don’t change, maybe the cattle out there that went wild on Trump, will be out in the fields while Liz makes her moves …

The pushers that hold all the dark money, have to know the fate of the GOP is showing up as that notorious dead door nail … wanting to win the power and keep controls means playing a few Democrat games as well, pushing the GOP around until it better serves their needs … The Turtle shutting down everything, means they can’t burrow into their money plans as the new money stagnates in Congress BS … if the Turtle had solid plans and a winning public image, instead of the slack jawed nay-sayer he is, which has hung the Republicans out to dry …

The huge circus of Trump and family in orange jumpsuits, HAS to pop soon, but finding all the fine print crimes of DJT and his family in reams of paper work will be a bit tedious at best …
