What is it with Hegseth screwing up right and left? He’s called an in-person meeting of our top military personnel. First, they all have to get back here. That’s going to take days. They’re not going to be happy about it, and I hope we hear about some pushback. Second, they have to leave their commands. What’s to say those areas won’t come under fire because they are leaving acting commanders in place, and our opponents will try to take advantage of it? Or what could give our opponents time for a few assassinations? There’s another danger, and it’s a big one.
A decision by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to bring the approximately 800 most senior generals and admirals in one place for a secretive meeting at Quantico drew fire on MSNBC on Friday morning from retired U.S Army Lieutenant General Mark Hertling. During an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Hertling, a military analyst for the network, pointed out the danger of pulling the senior military officers from their posts all around the world and putting them in one spot, thereby giving America’s enemies an opportunity to create havoc. He began by stating, “I’ve never seen anything like this before, and it just seems extremely bizarre and strange,” co-host Joe Scarborough prompted his guest with, “Well, general, let me just ask you strategically how just how stupidly dangerous is this?” “It’s pretty dangerous, Joe,” he conceded.
Exactly. This is a *major* stupid act. Did Hegseth not think this through? Is he so arrogant as to assume that this will be fine? We have no idea of his thinking behind this. We are going to have about 800 of our top military people in one place. And because it’s going to take days to assemble, our opponents have time to prepare. The security needs must be ridiculous.
“I think there’s, from what I’ve talked to some of my colleagues that are still active, they don’t know what this is about,” he added. “So it could be about a shifting national security strategy. It could be cuts to the general officer corps –– Secretary Hegseth has mentioned that several times. It could be about the upcoming budget stalemate. Or it could be concerns over information leaks or press leaks.”
There’s a better way to do this that doesn’t require all of them to be in one place. Just the thought of it is terrifying. In-person? Why??!! What is so urgent that he’s calling them in? If he had been quiet about it, it might not have been splashed all over the news. That was a major lapse in judgment for “Defense Secretary” Hegseth. Now it’s everywhere and damn near everyone knows it. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
“But general, don’t they have communication systems where they can do that, so we can actually keep our generals and our admirals in the field where they are needed?” the MSNBC host pressed. “Certainly, Joe and they’re called secure video teleconferences. It is,” he replied. “The same thing as a secure computer. Not Snapchat, not Signals app. This is, no kidding, secure stuff.”
Not Signals app. Ahahaha. That was subtle, and Hegseth might not notice since we have to assume he only watches Fox “News”. And WHAM. Hegseth just got owned. Oh yes, he did. But subtle isn’t Pete’s strongest quality. As a matter of fact, does he even know what it means, given that this information is splashed all over the news? Is his wife going to be there as usual? Place your bets!
BREAKING: Instead, the meeting, according to the Washington Post’s report, will be for all 800 or so generals and admirals to listen to Secretary Hegseth speak about his own beliefs regarding what the U.S. military should be — his “warrior ethos” ideology.
You have GOT to be kidding me. But they aren’t kidding. He’s calling them in for a TALK that is expected to last less than an hour. That’s it. Time, money, and an active high-ranking group of the military, for a talk. Could someone save us from “Department of War” Hegseth? (Spoiler: it won’t be Trump.)
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

I wouldn’t be surprised if this little exercise is, as alluded to in the text, at least in part, an excuse to ‘thin the ranks’.
This regime has already demonstrated countless times that they never think ahead of possible ramifications of suddenly sacking large numbers of people and the damage it does to US operations. (Though, given Putin’s interest in hobbling US military, perhaps someone has.)
Are we about to see a repeat of the USAID debacle on a larger and more disastrous scale?
I hope they all remember to take the batteries out of their phones. Lord knows how much information could be scanned and collected by foreign interests. This is beyond incompetence, it’s insanely stupid!
Why? He’s an alcoholic in denial. Pure and simple.
It’s Trump way to control the military!
if that’s what it is then holy crap that’s unbeleivably stupid.
