We can always count on at least one strange article a day, and this is it. The particular things listed are things we never knew would be considered. For those of us who remember News of the Weird, this would fit in nicely. It’s stunning!
You see, to be in the FBI, we all know there are certain things you would NOT want to have done before you tried to sign up. Some are obvious, such as robbery or assault. And you need to pass a background check, which is not at all a surprise. But other actions are now considered okay within limits. They were not okay, and then they were. Within certain limitations, a few things aren’t so bad anymore.
After all the excesses of getting rid of agents (that we needed), it seems Kash and the FBI have found themselves to be a bit shorthanded. We lost more than 1,000 agents to the “purges”. And they sent a bunch over to the DoJ for redactions. Once again, this is not a surprise. After performing a search, the basic requirements are not that bad. It gets finicky when you want to become a special agent. It can take up to a year to be hired. That would be better said as “hurry up and wait”. All good things come to those who wait, although it can get pretty boring.
But we were discussing a couple of things where the rules have been relaxed. Thank you, Raw Story:
Kash Patel’s FBI is being pilloried online after a new report revealed the bureau quietly loosened the vetting standards that once automatically disqualified applicants who had hired sex workers, stolen from an employer, or engaged in bestiality. According to CBS News, the FBI in June eased some background check rules so that those acts, most of them illegal, are no longer instant disqualifiers for would-be agents. A candidate may now get a pass on prostitution as long as they did not hire sex workers three or more times, and not within the past decade, and someone who committed bestiality as a minor could still make the cut, sources told the outlet.
How unusual. There’s no accounting for taste … or desperation. Why would someone do something like that (unless they’re ICE in Texas)? It’s difficult to comprehend. Either one would probably show up on a background check. That would probably be a lot more detailed than what we would consider “normal”. Heck, even a lot of employers are running background checks!
So we see that it’s apparently okay to have those things in your background, just as long as it was many years in the past. We didn’t need to know that. Here you go, your one-trick pony for the day.
