Democrats had a special election this week just past. And No Kings was one helluva firecracker going off. Trump’s power is waning. The people of America have had it with his nonsense. Don’t forget his massive ‘perade’ was a flop. And there was no way to spin that into seeming something better. His humiliation is something he won’t be able to live down for a long, long time. So, about that election, courtesy of MSNBC:

Headed into last week’s state legislative special elections, Democrats were confident about a contest in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The state House race was in a district that Kamala Harris carried by 19 points, and the party’s candidate, Amanda Clinton, appeared well positioned to do at least as well. The good news for Democrats was that their candidate prevailed. The better news for Democrats was the margin: Clinton won a 69-point landslide, easily surpassing expectations.

In elections and special elections throughout the country, results like these have become rather common lately. After last week’s special elections in multiple states, The Downballot reported, “Overall, in 29 special elections this year, Democratic candidates have run 16.4 points ahead of the 2024 presidential results on average.” G. Elliott Morris, the former director of data analytics at FiveThirtyEight, published a related analysis that pointed in the same direction.

WOW!! How about that?! Maybe Trump fatigue is a thing of the past now. We may have been demoralized, but we got off that bandwagon and got our own going. I think the *country* has had Trump fatigue, and the smarter half is back! (There’s no accounting for taste over in the other half.)

Now, if we can just get the Democrats in the House and Senate to wake the efff up, we should be in pretty good shape. That’s one helluva job, though. We are tired of the mealy-mouthed platitudes and whining. We want ACTION. We need to regain control of Congress! What they are doing now is nothing, hidden by some pretty words.

If you look at most of the Democrats in Congress, they are beaten down and tired and have *let* themselves be cowed. There are a few that most definitely stand out, but they can’t do it alone. Wake up and stop smelling the wilted roses!

However, there is something that shows a LOT of us have woken up. I hope you aren’t tired of hearing about it, because this needs to be celebrated for *more* than a day or two. Yup, I’m talking about No Kings again because it’s damn important. Here’s some more interesting information from MSNBC:

Of course, the election data isn’t the only relevant evidence. Take Saturday’s “No Kings” events, for example. As The Washington Post reported, Americans turned out en masse in communities across the country Saturday, raucously pushing back on what they see as President Donald Trump’s widening authoritarianism, attacks on immigrants, and deep cuts to scores of federal programs.

Predictably, Republicans scrambled to pretend the events were poorly attended. Sen. Bernie Moreno of Ohio, for example, published an online item pointing to what he claimed was a “lack of enthusiasm” for “No Kings” gatherings. Steven Cheung, the White House’s communications director, similarly claimed the progressive protests were “a complete and utter failure with minuscule attendance.”

GOP officials and operatives probably would’ve been better off coming up with more credible talking points, instead of asking Americans not to believe their own eyes. Indeed, Morris, the aforementioned data analyst, put together a rather detailed analysis and found that between 4 million and 6 million people turned out for “No Kings” events across the United States.

Yup, minuscule *snort* too bad they couldn’t yank all the pictures showing SO MANY PEOPLE attending these protests. This number was even better than the first estimate I read of about 1.5 million. And that’s a word to remember, too. MILLION. And what was it, a few thousand (maybe) attending Trump’s wet limp lettuce failure? Uh, huh. Let’s have one last quote to close.

Between activism, election results, and protest turnout, those assumptions about the prevailing political winds are due for a reassessment. The backlash to Trump is real.

It’s about damn time. I think it will keep going. And, unsurprisingly, I will do what I can. There are a whole lot more “I’s” out there. Millions. Just remember millions. I wonder what we’ll do next. Thanks for sticking with me!

  1. Sadly, I think the Democrats like being in the minority.
Most are just tired old folks looking to keep their easy jobs and have access to info to boost their stock portfolios.
Plus, being in the minority means they can’t be blamed and can fundraise off of the “evil Republicans”.

    • Whereas NO Republican has ever fundraised off the “evil Democrats” when the GOP has been in the minority. And NO Republican has ever fundraised off the “evil Democrats” who somehow–despite being in the minority–manage to “thwart” every GOP objective.
And, do you really think anyone believes your line about the “tired old folks” when it seems that the GOP members seem to really hate actually legislating?
