The word “unprecedented” is definitely scheduled for the dust bin, from dint of pure exhaustion. The latest event from the Trump administration to wear that label is a strictly partisan meeting of two Republican congressman only with FBI Director Christopher Wray and others to discuss a controversial Trump Russia source. The Hill:
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) and Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) will meet with FBI Director Christopher Wray, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and top Justice Department official Ed O’Callaghan, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters.___White House chief of staff John Kelly helped broker the meeting but will not be there himself. No White House officials will be in attendance, according to Sanders.___Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Monday that Democrats should be invited.___Schumer called the meeting “highly irregular and inappropriate” but said if it does occur, then “it must be bipartisan in order to serve as a check on the disturbing tendency of the president’s allies to distort facts and undermine the investigation and the people conducting it.”
That’s putting it mildly. Huckabee Sanders’ incredible spin on this is that the Democrats haven’t specifically asked about the information, so, apparently, they’re not entitled to it, or something. Between this incident, the weekend tweet storm, and Rudy Giuliani blatantly lying about the conclusion of the Mueller investigation being set for September 1, it’s getting obvious that Trump is very freaked out about the Mueller probe. He and his allies are now using every trick in the book to detail the investigation.
