Yesterday afternoon Georgia GOP Representative and boat parade roid-rager Marjorie Taylor Greene fired up her Twitter/X account to celebrate the July 4th weekend by misinforming her peeps of a bit of funhouse mirrors fractured history of the founding fathers by tweeting out a list of eight supposed signers of the Declaration of Independence and pointing out how young some of them were. Trouble here is six of the eight – James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, James Monroe, Aaron Burr, Paul Revere and George Washington were not signatories of the hollowed document at all.

A simple google search would have informed you, Marge, that Paul Revere did not sign the Declaration on the 4th of July because he was actually in a Nashville studio recording his new singer in his first gig with Revere’s band. And pals Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton were busy beefing that day over who would ask the future Dolly Madison out to the University of Virginia’s coming Labor Day Picnic while George Washington was at Bunker Hill planning the take over of the Newark Airport with Lafayette and Ben Franklin…

Dumbass.

Huffington Post on MSN has the story:

Conspiracy theorist Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) tried to celebrate American history over the Independence Day weekend ― but got schooled by critics after she botched some basic details.

“The average age of the signers of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 was 44 years old, but more than a dozen were 35 or younger,” she wrote, then listed eight names and ages:

But as a community note tacked onto her message pointed out: “James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, James Monroe, Aaron Burr, Paul Revere, and George Washington were not signers of the Declaration of Independence.”

In other words, Greene ― who once spoke at a white nationalist event ― got six of the eight wrong.

Critics gave her a history lesson on X:“

And many others chimed in…

Why the folks in her district put up with this embarrassment representing them I’ll never know.

Oh yeah, the ones who vote for her are even bigger dumbasses… if that is even possible.

  1. She’s obviously been binging the History Channel. Anyone who knows anything about American history would know that the Declaration of Independence was NOT signed on July 4, 1776. In fact, LEGITIMATE historians have spent years debating when the document was actually signed as some of the signatories were known to NOT be in Philadelphia on July 4th. Most historians believe the document was signed BETWEEN July 4th, 1776 and as late as 1781 with August 2, 1776 being the date that most (but not all) signatures were actually affixed to the document. There were, in fact, several versions that were printed during the period and the Founding Fathers who wrote in their journals and diaries about July 4, are widely believed to have been referring to the date that the document was actually adopted but that signatures could’ve been later. (In fact, according to the historians, NONE of the New York delegates was even authorized to sign until sometime between July 9th and July 19th as New York’s convention hadn’t adopted an independence resolution until after the 4th.)

  2. History is always more complex than is ever recorded or remembered. Certainly much more than the talking blonde hairdo can keep track of. HEE HAW! HEE HAW! HEE HAW! There she goes again…

  3. This is incredibly picky – but sonce it’s Marj – IIRC the second was the day they all signed it. The Fourth was when it was published (They had just as much internet as they had airplanes.)

  4. I spent 12 miserable years in GA. She isn’t all that unusual. Her district is rural which is a nice way of saying the Dunning Krueger Effect is real.
