Of all the bat guano on steroids episodes that Madison Cawthorn has been at the center of, I have to confess, the events of the past few days are positively next level. I am assuming that one of two things is going on, 1) He’s made a lot of enemies and now they’re out to get him so they’re releasing embarrassing photos and video; 2) He doesn’t even know what all of his goings on are out there and on tape. Either way, he’s losing it.
It’s not surprising that he would default to a Donald Trump line to whitewash it — and look how far we’ve come since 2016. Grab ’em by the pussy was considered a bit outre for locker room talk back then, but we were uninformed.
Now, one guy shaking his male member in another guy’s face is “locker room talk.” Or, maybe Cawthorn is referring to the groping footage below that.

So where is he going to go from here?
- Confess he’s gay;
- Keep blowing off these obviously embarrassing videos like they were nothing?
- Keep normalizing these videos? For a party that is hell bent on getting rid of pedophiles, I can’t see this being a good look.
Cawthorn is truly a piece of work. Social media is jammed with people now saying that they don’t care if he’s gay, they care that he’s such a hypocrite, with all the Christian marriage, earthen vessel discussion. It’s all hogwash.
Let’s see what else gets unearthed today. We’re on a roll.
Lil’ maddie is the textbook example of a person of privilege. He is so used to white, male, x-tian, etc. privilege he thinks he is immune to any blow-back from any of his behavior. It will be interesting to see if the voters in his district agree. Of course I hope any and everyone running against this yahoo utilize all photographic and other recorded evidence of his “privilege” in campaign ads this summer/fall.
I don’t think we’ll see him get past the primary. If it were to happen he’s in a pretty hard core red district which is bad. However, even if many of those folks can’t bring themselves to actually vote for a Democrat they might not vote at all, or at least in his race. Or write in another Republican’s name and I CAN see an effort to organize a write-in campaign for another Republican. It would almost certainly fail to elect that person BUT it would result in two things. First and most important it would give a good Democratic candidate running a smart, well-resourced campaign an actual chance at flipping the district if only for one cycle. Second, that might be a price many in the district are willing to pay to be rid of Cawthorn – the write-in effort would allow them to rationalize giving a Democrat a chance or (horrors!) representing the District for a couple of years. AND give them “plausible deniability” with Trump and the extreme even for them MAGAts should the Democrat win.
However I think all that is moot because Cawthorne is going to go down in flames in the primary. For me the question is whether he will lash out in retribution at the winner, or both the candidates in a runoff and do enough damage that they will really have their work cut out for them to prevail in November. He’s exactly the kind of person who if he has any dirt would make it public and LOUDLY. Hell, he is probably the kind of slimeball that will just make shit up. Don’t bet against this becoming a GOP on GOP trainwreck in that district.
He’s still 18 years old mentally and doesn’t realize that videos like this get out and people see them and go “Nope – not adulting, vote for someone who is”.
Um, most 18 year olds who do these kinds of videos know full well they get out; they’re usually out there putting them up on XTube and other adult websites in the hopes of monetizing their behavior. Even minors (14-18) are fully aware that they run the risk of “compromising” material getting out when they get involved with “sexting.”
MORONS, on the other hand, don’t seem to realize that videos like this get out.
And, of course, people who think they’re “privileged” believe that, even if/when something like this gets out, they won’t suffer any consequences.
I think Maddie fits the “privileged” group more than the others.
It is, of course, a little ironic that about a decade ago, a young woman in North Carolina became the target of a slut-shaming campaign after her porn career (done to finance her Duke University education) was discovered.
