There comes a time in everybody’s life when your physical condition prevents you from doing different things. I used to run and ride horses. My right hip became destroyed by arthritis and I have to walk, because I can’t handle impact sports. I miss the horses, I miss running. It is what it is. Mitch McConnell has run the good race. He’s been in the saddle a very long time. But he is not in the shape a person needs to be to lead his party in the Senate, especially in the era of Trump.
What do you think is wrong with Mitch McConnell?

He’s gone mentally. This is becoming a habit.

Admittedly these two memes above are a bit cold, but they’re black comedy and the essence of black comedy, gallows humor, is that yes, it is tragic that we get to the place in life where the next big event is our death, but that happens. And I can tell you, as a person who had the classic near death experience, floating in the tunnel of light, all that, I don’t see it as anything to be feared.
But I digress. The issue here is not McConnell’s demise, which may not come for another ten years. He might turn into a vegetable first. Some people do. The issue is that somebody needs to lead the GOP in the Senate and Mitchell doesn’t want to give up the gavel. And that is consummate selfishness and bad judgement. But those two qualities do seem to be the hallmark of the Republican party in this day and age, do they not?
I hope he announces retirement soon. Or, maybe he’ll elect to die in the saddle. Then don’t put him up at the podium anymore. This is humiliating and it’s hard for the rest of the country to watch.
The GOP has zero leadership with the empty suit, McCarthy, in the House, and the shade of McConnell, still “leading” the Senate, with one foot on the floor of the Senate and the other in the next realm. Harry Reid did not do this and he would never have.

Who would replace him? John Cornyn? All you really have to be able to do is say NO or FU to any Democrat on the planet. My dad had a brain injury, my wife has Parkinson and my daughter has a whole brain injury. My dad would zone out like that in a way. That was one of his most notable symptoms in the early days. He would snap out of it after a bit, but I don’t remember how many times my mother would call me to come over or take him to the doctor. I would say about two years of that before he got really bad off. McConnell has become so powerful he really has no power. He should go back the Kentucky and stay while he still has a life of sorts.
Basically the GOP has no leadership in the Senate. At least their titular leader is in this condition. McConnell has fallen off badly the past few years and now he’s zoned out in public twice in two months. This is enough. This is degrading. Why doesn’t Elaine Chao do something?
She’s too wedded to the power, not the man.
“consummate selfishness and bad judgement” isn’t all that the republicans offer.
They also offer greed and hypocrisy as well.
Mitch is done , his wife should take him home . The Senators need to replace him . He’s been there long enough.
I’m sorry, but the sooner this f**k goes away….the better for the USA! A case can be made that he has damaged the country more than Trump…and that’s saying something.
Good riddance…
except for who might take the gavel in his place.
If he “allows” any kind of smooth transition, then those stinking Repoukes will have to allow the same for Feinstein.
Ain’t gonna happen.
Those bastards!
He looks like he aged 10 years in the last year. I totally agree with Jerry’s comment in body of the blog – a teensy tiny bit of me pities him but the rest of me will never forgive him for all the harm he’s done this country, becoming worse with Obama and even worse than that by cushioning the orange toe jam.
It’s past time for Schumer to approach the GOP Senate Leadership and cut a deal. We’ve long had a problem with Dianne Feinstein who hasn’t been up to the job. Even her handlers (who once she’s gone should never be allowed to work in Democratic politics again) who have kept propping her up past the point where she could have and should have gracefully retired and with a lot of glory might finally get that it’s time for her (and them) to admit it’s time to exit.
So Schumer can go to the Senate GOPer leadership and say “Look, for all our differences Mitch and I worked in the Senate and as Party leaders for a long time. He became as formidable a Republican as some Presidents have been. So here’s what I propose. I will take the heat from my fellow Democrats for making sure Mitch gets a big, classy send-off into retirement. Many if not most on our side will howl that he doesn’t deserve it but I’ll stand up and defend Mitch’s service. In return we get DiFi to quietly resign for “health reasons” and a speech from me about her long service and barriers broken and that will be it. BUT you allow us to REPLACE her immediately on the Judiciary Committee. Again, we can do if faster than lightening. Yes, it will get some hype but with all the other news going on it will get lost in the noise. That’s the deal. We give Mitch a grand and glorious retirement send-off and you don’t f**k around and hold up us replacing DiFi on Judiciary.
The only problem I foresee is GOPers deciding who takes over as Minority Leader. I say if Cronyn were to tell them he’d pledge to be an interim until after the 2024 election and then stand aside and let the younger folks fight it out they might go for it.
The only problem is that Kentucky has a dem governor and although there is supposed to be a law requiring him to select a candidate the republicans like, the law is likely unconstitutional. Beshear could pick a democrat to replace mitch, that would make republicans heads explode.
In that case (and full disclosure, I’m not from or in the USA) surely Senator Schumer could bring Governor Beshear onboard to seal the deal.
The VERY publicly announced-in-advance deal, just in case.
I live in Ky. and I agree . Beshear is a Great Gov. We have a democratic party here and hope to keep him .
Functionally, this “… dour, sullen, and unsmiling …” man is loosing his capacities and abilities to meaningly engage, in the political arena, he revels in. Politically it looks like this “… giant douche …” is now unwittingly and publicly revealing how he’s morphing into a “… turd sandwich …”. This will be an ugly thing to watch unfold, if he is not afforded a humane, and an appropriate exit from any further ‘birdcage rattlers’ like these recent vacant displays of his. He has visibly lost body mass, and displays deficits in cognition. Take mercy on him, and retire him asap.
MSM: Senator McConnell is just going through a stage in his life and political career, he’ll pass through this and everything will be good.
ALSO MSM: DID YOU ALL KNOW THAT JOE BIDEN IS OLD?
No Steven he’s not , he isn’t capable anymore . I live in Ky. we know all about him. He’s going thru a stage alright and he’s not coming out of it . Yes, Biden is old but he’s still mentally capable, Mitch is not .
I was quoting what the MSNBCs, the Fox Outrage Machine, and cable TV “newsfotainment” love to talk about. President Joe is old. But Uncle Joe exercises, and takes care of himself. So I rest good knowing he’s in charge of things.
Old doesn’t equate to mentally unstable. My mother lived until 93 years old and right to the end was sharp as a tack.
To MSM: Joe doesn’t require his ‘handlers’ to step in to lead him away without ever responding to the question. He may be ‘old’ according to the trips around the sun, but this ‘old’ guy still exercises, looks good, and has facilitated monumental legislation concerning the pandemic, climate change, student debt, infrastructure, etc., along with saving NATO and restoring our reputation around the world. All done with a republican/ looney bin house and two senators who vote with them. Of course, you, like the MAGA,(MY ASS GOT ARRESTED), crowd never cared much for facts. Here’s one: 91 felony counts. Heard of it? The rest of us have and you’ll find out next year they are real, unlike your corrupt point if view. We know all you care about is drama to get your share of clicks and ratings. When you are owned by whores, you work in a whorehouse. Start telling the truth. There was a time when the anchors of the news cared immensely about that!
Thank you Scott Samuel Jackson you hit the nail on the head !
I thought that Mitch was having mini seizures, but now I think I know the answer.
He had a genuine, not tarnished by GOP rhetoric, thought. It so stunned him, shocked him to the core, that all he could do was stare off into the distance, as if in a trance.
LOL …..
Rethugs are scared sh**less to get rid of the slimy toad, primarily because they know the democrat governor of Kentucky has said he will defy the new defensive posture the GOP has made to prevent Brashear from nominating whomever he pleases to the post. Kentucky has no traditional posture of requiring the governor to appoint someone of the same party to fill out a term.
McConnell is afraid that if he retires, Beshear will appoint a Democrat to replace him.
That would be fine with me , Dem’s get stuff done , I haven’t figured out what the Rebugs have done , oh yeah, they take care of the rich .
