Minneapolis started this. Now it’s going nationwide. We are striking that day, and we will cripple Trump and his losers with it. This is important, too. No Kings keeps building, and the people of America will continue to build. We have protests going on in other countries with us. We all know Trump is a parasite that needs to be squashed. Now, we are striking. With gratitude to Raw Story:

Ezra Levin, co-founder of Indivisible, said on Saturday that a nationwide general strike is being planned for May 1 that will be modeled on the day of action residents of Minnesota organized in January against the brutality carried out by federal immigration enforcement officials.

Appearing at the flagship No Kings rally in Minneapolis, Levin praised the strength shown by the Minnesota protesters in the face of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) siege of their city this year, and said his organization wanted to replicate it across the country.

A bunch of my friends, my husband, and I participated in solidarity. The tough part is when you have people who *have to* go to work for their families. They might participate in spirit if they can’t actually strike. That’s a tough decision to have to make, and no one can fault them for it.

“The next major national action of this movement is not just going to be another protest,” Levin said. “It is a tactical escalation… It is an economic show of force, inspired by Minnesota’s own day of truth and action.” Levin then outlined what the event would entail. “On May 1, on May Day, we are saying, ‘No business as usual,’” he said.

No work, no school, no shopping. We’re going to show up and say we’re putting workers over billionaires and kings.” Levin added that “we are going to build on that courage, that sacrifice” that Minnesota residents showed during their day of action in January, and vowed, “to demonstrate that regular people are the greatest threat to fascism in this country.”

I believe we are. I believe we can do this. We can make it through Trump’s term. People are getting more active. People are pushing back. The night is always darkest before dawn. ICE didn’t expect us to push back. ICE didn’t expect that they wouldn’t cow us. ICE didn’t expect us to take care of our friends and neighbors. And they certainly didn’t expect to be watched so closely. There are some incredibly brave people in Minnesota, and they’ve shown us the way.

In an interview with Payday Report published Saturday, Indivisible co-founder Leah Greenberg said that the goal of the nationwide strike action would be to senda clear message: we demand a government that invests in our communities, not one that enriches billionaires, fuels endless war, or deploys masked agents to intimidate our neighbors.”

The No Kings protests against President Donald Trump’s authoritarian government, which Indivisible has been central in organizing, have brought millions of Americans into the streets. Polling analyst G. Elliott Morris estimated that the previous No Kings event, held in October, drew at least 5 million people nationwide, making it likely “the largest single-day political protest ever.”

Hmmm. I thought the *first* one had 5 million, and the *second* had 7 million. I’m looking forward to today’s estimated numbers. It’s going to be great! We keep growing. This matters. The people of America and what they do matter. They can drive to beat us down all they want. It’s not going to work. National Strike Day on May 1st. Put it on your calendar.

See you soon!

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. Somehow even more stupid than a protest against something that doesn’t exist, this idiotic day of (inaction) is so ill conceived it’s mind boggling. You strangely believe that you can hurt the Trump administration by not going to work, school or shopping?? Please explain how.
I will be going to work as usual, filling up on gas and stopping at the store on my way home. No one I know will be partaking in this silliness, why would you? You think potentially harming small businesses is a good idea?
