He is really something, in a good way. Trump is so outclassed, at least one-on-one (and more on one, although we’re only discussing Trump at the moment). But there are other things going on, and Jack has decided to speak out for a bit, to blow the whistle on Trump. Oh, my goodness gracious. This was… unexpected. Bonus – Jack Smith knows his law, which means he knows what to say and what not to say. Trump (and Vance) blurt things out, let the chips fall where they may, and that’s where the difference is. With appreciation for Raw Story:
Former special counsel Jack Smith stunned online viewers by revealing how he prepared for prosecution by the Trump administration. During an appearance on MS NOW, Smith spoke about hiring lawyers when he left his job as a federal prosecutor because he had led two criminal investigations into Donald Trump, including his efforts to overturn the 2020 election and the discovery of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago.
Yep. Everyone knew that it would be coming when Trump became president-elect. Trump does very well at holding a grudge. Mr. Smith became very well-known over the last couple of years. He is very good at what he does, and remember all the experience he had before becoming the special counsel. He also said something that Trump definitely did not like right before he resigned. He *would have had* a guilty verdict on Trump on the insurrection. Time to go back to reading that report.
“I resigned as special counsel. I know I need to get a lawyer because the president has said he wants to jail me for doing my job,” Jack Smith explained. “And so, I retain lawyers; as soon as that becomes public, the president and the Justice Department target that law firm.” Online, viewers reacted to Smith’s account of how his fears about the Trump administration came true. Veteran political scientist Norman Ornstein responded by describing the administration as “American Gestapo” in a post on X.
American Gestapo. Oof, and wow. Harsh and true. Trump does love his excesses. He’s going after Mr. Smith because he knows there is trouble and there is proof. He wants to cover up the fact that, yes, he started an insurrection, to be very general about it. We don’t need to go into details. No other president would have done what Trump did to try to overthrow an election by violence, by killing people. It may not have been his hand beating on the Capitol Police, but he gave the insurrectionists permission, so it should have been.
We are in such high cotton here,” reacted columnist Sophia A. Nelson. “And nobody in power who can stop him or his minions gives a d—.” //// “What a refreshing example of an honest, moral and non-political American hero,” architect and political activist Mike Kihn wrote about Jack Smith. “He will not give in to Trump’s attempt to intimidate because, like a legal first responder, he will run to danger, personal or otherwise, not away from it.”
“The retribution is simply staggering,” wrote civil rights lawyer Leslie Proll. //// ” “Now listen to the women who testified under oath that Trump r— them,” posted journalist Robert Young Pelton. “Or listen to the testimony of those who spoke out from inside the Trump administration, like Miles Taylor.”
Don’t we wish? We wish someone would listen who could actually *do* something. But right now, he has absolute immunity to do anything he wants as president. And he has limited immunity as himself. Thanks, SCOTUS, you jerks. But Mr. Smith has spoken out, brought that darkness into the light, and taken another brick away from Trump’s protective walls. Trump can’t stop him from talking.
See you soon!
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
