This is a missive from another dimension. The Swamp is a Washington newsletter put out by the Daily Beast, which is a credible source. They were riffing on Bill Pulte as Director Of National Intelligence and then they riffed on Pete Hegseth helming Education. Whut? Is this meant as satire? Because with this administration in office it’s hard to tell parody from truth, let alone prophecy. I’ll reprint the entire first part of the newsletter so no context is lost and you tell me what you think.

There is a controversial episode of the legendary comedy series Fawlty Towers in which Mony Python alum John Cleese plays a hotel manager trying and failing to hide his anti-German sentiment toward a visiting party from Britain’s World War Two foe.

The episode is called ‘Don’t Mention the War,’ and The Swamp suspects that is the very sentiment at the White House today after the president’s comically contradictory comments about his Iran War on Monday.

One moment he was promising a solution and insisting all would be well, then he was saying he didn’t really care, and the Iranians made all his remarks moot by pulling out of the peace talks, anyway, which confirmed the one thing we did understand about the impasse—it’s a bloody mess.

No wonder Donald Trump is keeping his head down for the second day running at the White House today … presumably so nobody can ask him about the war.

In the meantime, Trump has clearly been trying to amuse himself by mixing and matching the most ridiculous jobs. On Tuesday, he made his attack dog housing guy, Bill Pulte, the acting Director of National Intelligence.

Tomorrow, he’s putting Pete Hegseth in charge of the Education Department. At least, he is uniquely unqualified for both jobs…

On Thursday, RFK Jr. can combine HHS with the FBI to investigate his own conspiracies. Why not give him a third department? He can have Agriculture and oversee the nation’s zoos.

I realize how off the walls it sounds but look at the portfolio Marco Rubio has. Rubio isn’t quite where Jared Kushner was, Secretary of Everything, but he’s not that far off.

In all events, you tell me if our leg is being pulled because I wouldn’t put it past Trump. Not with all that we’ve seen. Why not have Hegseth run the Pentagon and the DOE? Trump wants to shut down the DOE anyhow, who better to run it into the ground?
