We’ve already had doctors weighing in on this. We can add a columnist to the group. He’s very clear and concise with what he says, so it’s worth reading. America is so close to tipping over the edge. We’re in an incredibly perilous position. It’s overwhelmingly frustrating to not be able to accomplish anything except sit, watch, and scream. Regards to Raw Story:
Alan Rusbridger, columnist and former editor of The Guardian, explained how the moment of reckoning has arrived — it’s time to be honest that President Donald Trump’s mental state is declining. In a column published Saturday for The Independent, Rusbridger detailed the major changes in Trump’s mental health, including his rambling and confusing speeches, heightened narcissism, and tense temperament. He even suggested that America’s founding fathers could not have predicted a character like Trump would ever find power in the nation’s top job. “They could not, in their worst nightmares, conceive of a president who would be simultaneously all-powerful and mentally unwell,” Rusbridger wrote.
Yes, a reckoning is needed. “We” were able to work with him and his known prejudices up until the Iran War. That’s when it all blew open. And it’s an unwarranted, unneeded, illegal war that he may have been talked into joining, although we’ll never know. But when he hit the genocidal rant, THAT is when it became more than clear that there is a problem. There are all sorts of obstacles getting in the way of doing something, starting with his ‘cabinet’ and possibly part of the military, since Trump still wants martial law.
Despite Trump’s slipping mental faculties, many continue “sane-washing” what Trump says to normalize how absurd his late-night rants and increasingly odd behavior have become, the columnist argued. “The second coming of Trump has been accompanied by the creeping acknowledgement that he might either be mad or senile,” Rusbridger explained. “And as things fall apart in his mind, so anarchy is loosed upon the rest of the world.”
“‘Mad’ and ‘senile’ may not be precise medical terms, but pick your own symptoms,” Rusbridger wrote. “Even his most fervent supporters can no longer hide their disquiet at his impulsivity, malignant narcissism, and erratic volatility. All but the willfully blind recoil from the deranged stream of consciousness that spews from his social media accounts at all times of day and night.” Trump’s general disposition can’t be downplayed.
They *are* sane-washing him and his actions. The threat of infrastructure bombing, followed by genocide upon Iran, should have made *everyone* realize he’s lost it. Apparently, it did not. My household spent the next day and a half worrying about him actually doing this, and if so, how. Trump is so crazy that he could have used nukes, and that would have destroyed our country. Period. We’ve gone through our fancy arsenal to the point that it’s going to take years to replace it. And really, it didn’t do a damn bit of good. Not one.
“We can no longer ignore his conspiracy-obsessed mindset and his lack of control,” Rusbridger wrote. “We can see for ourselves his increasing detachment from reality along with his increasingly frequent delusional claims. We flinch at his emotional volatility, his disregard for democratic norms. We shudder at his disinhibition, blustering menace, vengeful rantings, and foul-mouthed posturing.” It’s something the public should ultimately come to terms with and face, the columnist said.
“But now mere anarchy is being loosed upon the world on an almost hourly basis; it’s time to face reality,” Rusbridger added. “There are around 30 weeks before Congress might reassert its power after the midterm elections. The most powerful man in the world does not have the mental capacity to do the job. And we have to stop behaving as though he does.”
Many of us don’t believe Trump and can see he’s insane. The difficulty is getting the people who *could* do something about it to see it and act. Trump is super erratic these days. It’s almost impossible to guess what he’s going to do next. And if we can’t guess, we don’t have a way to prepare. I know this is depressing, but I’m at a loss for everything. What will he do, how high will gas prices go, how expensive will food get, how do we pay utilities, and the list goes on. I’ve even given up on my birdfeeders, which have brought us so much joy. But our cats will *never* go hungry. We have lots of rice. They’ll be taken care of, one way or another.
See you soon!
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of elderly, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

From where I sit this is a matter of Trump now openly and with more frequency showing how unfit he is, including mentally deranged for the Presidency. Over half of American’s knew this and voted for either Harris or a third-Party candidate and just enough of that second group in the right places combined with too many Democrats who still couldn’t bring themselves to vote for a woman, or another non-white person have left us where we are. Oh, I forgot to mention large numbers of people (the bulk Muslim but not all – plenty of whites and or Christians reacted the same) who decided they’d by god show Democrats what was what because Biden, and by extension Harris didn’t sever ties with Netanyahu/Israel over their wanton destruction of lives and property in Gaza. It made a difference in MI and PA.
However I disagree the founders didn’t consider this. Those who wrote and ratified our Constitution weren’t only deeply fearful of too much power in one person’s hands. They were afraid someone corrupt with allegiance to or easily bought by a foreign power, and worse that person being a populist rabble rouser with an out of control ego fooling enough voters to become President.
That’s a big reason why the Electoral College was created. Yes, those who cite it helping slave holding states maintain our Original Sin of slavery. Enough northern states adopted a go along to get it done attitude to get things they wanted. However all were concerned with exactly the kind of person Trump is winding up as President – even the one with limited powers set forth in the actual Constitution.
The EC was envisioned to be made up of Electors with no political ambitions, but rather simply men (back then only men of course) of long established, unimpeachable character concerned with the public good. If the voters fucked up and got suckered by someone like Trump they were expected to step in and name someone else to ensure we would NOT have a Trump like person as President. The days when Electors would even think about exercising that Constitutional authority, much less acting on it are long gone. Long before any of us or our parents and even grandparents were born!
I can always count on you to fill in the blanks of what I discuss. I always learn something and this is fantastic!
Thank you so very, very much.
