Actually, there are a couple of judges I respect and admire, and today’s guest has made that list. Before we get to the actual ‘story’, here’s who we have thus far:

And to add to the list, Judge Shiltz, whom you met recently. ICE really did not need to piss him off, and as you’ll see, he’s furious in a very judge-ly sort of way. You saw that Todd Lyons almost had to fly to Minneapolis. I was hoping for it, but not, because I didn’t want the situation to get any worse, since Homan is on the way, if he isn’t already there. That was bad enough, but now? Oh, wait, Homan is there and, as expected, is being a dick. Yikes! With gratitude to Raw Story:
Legal experts were taken aback after a federal judge issued an “extraordinary” warning to President Donald Trump’s immigration forces in a new court order on Wednesday. Federal Judge Patrick J. Shiltz of the District of Minnesota issued an order cancelling an upcoming contempt hearing for acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement director Todd Lyons over his agency’s seeming inability to follow court orders. In the order, Shiltz noted 96 instances in which ICE had violated a court order. [EDIT: now up to 100.]
“ICE has likely violated more court orders in January 2026 than some federal agencies have violated in their entire existence,” Schiltz wrote. “The Court warns ICE that future noncompliance with court orders may result in future show‐cause orders requiring the personal appearances of Lyons or other government officials. ICE is not a law unto itself.”
Whoooo, *scorched*. Guess what, ICE. The judge isn’t playing. And might we note that this is *one city*. Just one! Dare we hope other cities are paying attention? Actually, Minneapolis has been such a mess that it’s almost positive it’s being watched across the country. We’re watching, after all. (Supposedly, ICE is being pulled out of Maine. Supposedly.)
The order was issued at a time when Trump’s immigration regime is facing increased scrutiny following the deaths of two American citizens in Minneapolis, both of whom were killed by immigration agents. Lawmakers have called for Department of Homeland Security Secretary and White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller to either be fired or resign.
Could we be so lucky? Heh, naahhhh. Not going to happen. Let’s go back to ‘Trump never admits he makes a mistake”. Stephen Miller is enjoying being a dick, even though he had to walk back for optics. Gnome? Who knows. She’s not making herself look good to find another position once she gets punted out of office. They certainly have shown their true colors in the past year. All of them have, not just the two. Politics is not a good field for making these kinds of mistakes. They haven’t been small. They’re playing with the big dogs now. With any luck, they’ll get eaten up.
Connor Lamb, a lawyer at Kline & Specter, wrote on Bluesky that the order was “stunning.” //// “75 billion dollars to fund more of this,” Anton Sorkin, director of Law Student Ministries at the Christian Legal Society, posted on X. //// “An extraordinary document. Read it,” immigration lawyer Aaron Reichlin-Melnick posted on X. //// “A stunning order from MN’s Chief Judge Schiltz. He says ICE has violated court orders more times this month than any other federal agency has in its entire history. Most deal with ICE failure to follow the law in detaining immigrants,” journalist Carol Leonnig posted on X.
So yes, a judge who knows the law. A judge who knows ICE doesn’t have a get-out-of-jail-free card. A judge who has said “enough”. We have a handful of judges who will bluntly kick ICE ass up, down, left, right, and center. Actually, not just ICE ass, either. Unlike “Loose” Cannon, they became judges because they believe in the law and being fair. May we have more, please?
