This is two nights in a row now when Sean Hannity is actually making sense. He had Alan Dershowitz on and they concluded that the election was over and had been rightly decided. That was a milestone of sorts. The chyron even read “Breaking News.” Eight months after the fact, but if you’re broadcasting to Wingnuttia, I guess eight months later is better than not at all. Now tonight Hannity claims that he doesn’t want any of his viewers to die. Wow, a concession that coronavirus can kill you, right there on Fox News. Will wonders never cease? Meanwhile, Rudy Giuliani is over at Newsmax proclaiming that COVID is “not a fatal disease.”

I’m thinking that Fox News must be reassessing their situation and coming to the conclusion that the anti-vaxxer, stolen election credo is not the way to play it in the long haul. Either that, or they’ve got reason to suspect lawsuits might be coming their way and they’re trying to head them off at the pass.
It is certainly a pathetic day when a network makes such a point of broadcasting falsehood that when they actually say something sane and reasonable it comes across as a breath of fresh air.
Or, maybe Hannity feels guilty. And well he should, if he stays on this anti-mask, anti-vaccine bandwagon. The Delta variant may not be the end game, coronavirus may have a few more curve balls to get in before it’s finally tamed and telling people not to get vaccinated because COVID is not real, is setting them up for a death sentence. Money and ratings are one thing, but to kill people to get them? It’s a little too Hollywood for me. It sounds like All About Eve on steroids.
It will be interesting to keep on eye on Fox News and see what other dogma they alter in days and weeks to come. I think it’s a foregone conclusion at this point that they’re not pushing the Big Lie. Maybe Carlson and Ingraham will for a little while, but I have a feeling that Fox News is trying to position itself for the long game and not go headfirst into the Trumpian abyss.
Those box canyons I mention as visual aids, are the real deal for some people that have been pushing Trump’s freaking anti-everything, country-splitting nonsense, how a circus tent three-ring clown could be and stay so long as a pretend president, will perplex the sacred halls of justice in the minds of scholars for years to come …
Once Trump got the attention of his less-experienced followers with his hand-waving rubber faced CT and name-calling, stacking endless piles of self-promotions into mob rants … Russian plans AND money swept in, Putin was getting cleaner money, Trump’s own offspring mentioned that publicly … “Russians seem to like golf courses”, that, alone, should have been red flags everywhere … Oh yes, got to mention a dead wrong GOP …
Just maybe, to dig out of their box canyons, places like FOX news will collapse everything Trump, making it a clear path for Trump to court and the unhappy AG’s there … Trump may implode at any moment …
Popcorn bags are starting to vibrate with anticipation, so are a lot of tired abused Democrats, it is time for Trump to go NOW … along with a number of Republicans who made Trump possible …
I remain struck by how little Putin profited from ANY of this in the end. Thanks to his pet poodle in the White House, he now has a widely out of control pandemic, which is, in turn, spurring civil unrest and wrecking a lot of plans he had. Personally, I’ve come to the conclusion that we need to stop ascribing the Bond villain honorifics that we’ve given him in recent years. Peel away the layers and all I see is a hateful, heartbroken old man who never got over losing his country.
An ‘old man who never got over losing his country’, yes, which was the spur for him to get Putz into the White House, and he’s taken great spiteful joy in reducing the US to the mess we’ve had since 2016. THAT was his profit, embarrassing us, undermining us, making us look ridiculous on the world stage using the inept clownstick tRump. What better revenge for the US winning the cold war than to turn us into a laughing stock now, like Mother Russia was for a long time. Putin despised us for our hand in that, and I suspect we probably rubbed it in. Putin, like tRump, has no sense of humor that isn’t at someone else’s expense, and doesn’t take ridicule lightly, also like tRump.
My guess is that it’s a combo of lawsuits and declining ratings that is driving this shift on Hannity’s part. I’d still class it under “too little, too late”. The damage has been done, enough so to where there may be no recovery for him.
Or for us.

To wit, if we were REALLY as good as we pretended we were before Trump, would we have lived the nightmare of the last four years? I doubt it.

The low level of public rhetoric he has normalized has done us a great deal of damage. Rainyj is worried that we not not recover that public “good.” A lot of people share the concern. The logical fallacy is in your misplaced analogy.
Trump ripped away our blindfold and let us see the danger before us. He did this by doubling down on his now famous pussy conversation with Billy Bush, thereby setting ablaze the waiting me too movement. He did this again by throwing fresh meat to his white supremist/kkk/Q,anon strategists who form the basics of what the GOP will be left with after Trumpism ends in the GOP. Ironically the USA will be better for the short term sh*t Trump dumped us into once these discussions happen. In the past, Fox News would simply change the topic and move on whenever a given narrative had been proven wrong (death panels under the ACA, no-go zones, etc.).
Hannity has apparently decided that lying about Covid has much higher stakes. Or maybe he hopes to pick up the viewers that become disgusted and disillusioned by Tucker Carlson. Time will tell if his newfound “sincerity” is real.

I’d say hannity is either being warned by Faux attorneys to lay off of it OR they’re bleeding advertisers. The only problem I have with either position is this: what about Liar Tuck? Sure, he had a trial where it was determined no one in their right mind would believe anything spewing from that sewer hole of a mouth but does that mean the sewer hole can still spew?
I’m not an attorney and I’m sure as sh*t not one who has studied constitutional law. I have been required to take numerous law classes for engineering and accounting but none of them really dealt with anything closer than “puffing vs lying” in advertising.
I am curious about the whole thing.
