They call themselves lawyers, at least. Doubt is beginning to show all over the place. And they’re getting caught in court. That’s … embarrassing. The DoJ these days is just full of fail. Alina Habba-Dabba-Doo, Lindsey Hooligan, and Jeanine Poor-o, all making a mess and spectacularly failing at what they’ve been trying to pull. They’re trying to get AG Tish James again. It’s a surprise they don’t get laughed out of court for it. Grand juries have said, ” Oh, HAIL NO” multiple times, but they won’t give up. Well, this last debacle is not a good thing for them. Who didn’t do their research, coaching, and practice to prevent this? Kudos to Raw Story:

Justice Department lawyers admitted in court this week that a key defense used to justify immigration arrests was based on false information, stunning legal analysts and raising the possibility of serious consequences. According to Slate’s Amicus podcast, DOJ attorneys acknowledged they had made a “material mistake” while defending Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests of migrants outside immigration courts. For months, government lawyers argued that ICE was following official policy when detaining migrants after hearings.

That’s something that’s bugged me since ICE started making the news. The migrants are going to court just like they are supposed to, and getting arrested for it. That’s some serious bullsh!t. They are following the law and getting busted. What the hail is that kind of crap? It’s as if they’re getting hit twice for the same thing. ICE doesn’t care.

“Now the DOJ admitted that this policy ‘does not and has never applied’ to immigration courts—meaning that its core defense of the agents’ conduct had been fabricated all along, according to Slate. The admission came after U.S. District Judge Kevin Castel previously sided with the government, relying in part on that now-discredited claim. Co-hosts Dahlia Lithwick and Mark Joseph Stern told listeners on Friday that the fallout from the Trump DOJ’s “latest catastrophecould be severe.

Could the fallout be severe? We’ll take it. Let’s nail them to the wall for this. DHS and the DoJ have made a giant shambles of the entire immigration situation. We have been waiting for this pushback, watching the errors, for a long, long time. Just the idea of them getting in trouble fills me with glee. They need to get their own building and call it “Liars ‘R’ Us”. That would be fitting and appropriate. It’s hard for most people to trust a lawyer in the first place. This will make it worse.

“I think civil contempt is a real possibility, and criminal contempt may not be off the table,” Stern said. He added that the department’s “lie sat at the heart of the case,” and “carries heinous real-world consequences.” “So, in this instance, because of these unique and idiosyncratic facts, it really is quite possible that somebody’s head is going to roll,” he said. Lithwick added that the revelation stands out because of the scale of the error and its potential impact on the case. “I think part of the reason this feels so big and momentous is not only because the lie itself was so egregious and so long-running—and even now sweeps in the judge—but also because it could actually reverse the outcome of the case itself,” she said.

BOOM. Someone has put their foot in it. Right now, we only know the judge’s name. We’ll have to wait and see whether they announce the name(s). I certainly hope so. Much more mockery could abound. That would be some entertainment! The rot starts with Blondi and, regretfully, goes all the way down. Very few people seem to have morals these days, and the lack is getting worse. We’re stuck with this for another few years. Dadgum.

See you soon!

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. How can we expect them to enforce the law, when they can’t even be bothered to follow it ?

    Obviously we can’t.

Time to defund and disband DHS and it’s ICE offshoot and go back to the way things were before 9/11.

    • Exactly. There is *ONE* DoJ lawyer I respect and she was up in Minneapolis. She asked to be held in contempt of court so she could rest. She said this sucks, the jobs sucks. I know she’s been removed and I hope she finds a good position elsewhere.

Otherwise, there is *no* trusting them. That brings out a whole bunch of emotions.

Defund? I wish. If we could just get someone decent in there. I saw a great sign in the No Kings montage I found on FB. “Crush ICE”. Gotta love it!
