I’ll be the first one to admit it, I’ve always liked former New jersey Governor Chris Christie, for several reasons;

  • Being born and raised in Chicago, with Democratic Cook County in the north, and GOP controlled rural south Illinois, I learned to appreciate a Governor from either party that put partisan politics aside to work for the people. I liked former California Governor Schwarzenegger for the same reason
  • For all of his shortcomings, Christie comes across as authentic. Christie bucked the GOP by nominating the states first Muslim judge, and when he got severe blowback, he told them to Sit down and STFU!
  • Christie actually worked for his citizens. When Superstorm Sandy blew through, Christie wasn’t just respectful to Obama for showing up to tour, he showed genuine friendship and appreciation for Obama’s obvious concern and willingness to help. Christie took a political hit for this, but it was the right thing to do for his constituents
  • And last but not least, being old and cranky myself, I’ve always liked a person in a position of authority who no longer has the time to suffer fools gladly. There’s no doubt that Christie was as guilty as original sin in the Bridgegate affair. When a reporter in a presser asked him a loaded question, Christie snorted and replied, Why are you asking me that? Didn’t you see me? I was the guy in the orange vest “working the cones” on the bridge that day. Sit down and shut up, moron!

Needless to say, I was very impressed with Christies rather long speech announcing his suspension of his 2024 presidential campaign. Of course it was self serving, but it was also direct, passionate, straight from the heart, and laid down a gauntlet.

Let’s be clear. Christie wasn’t surrendering, but nor was he slinking off. Christie wasn’t looking for sympathy, and neither was he trying to reach the truly unreachable souls of brain dead Trombies. Instead he spoke to not only his supporters, but to all of the disaffected GOP moderates who are no longer interested in a seat on the Trump train.

And he made it clear that he isn’t going anywhere. By refusing to throw his support behind either DeSantis or Haley, Christie made it obvious that he feels he has political capital, with a sympathetic base, and he plans to control that himself. It had to personally embarrassing to stand there and admit that in 2016, Christie let personal political ambition override personal moral judgement and decency in supporting Trump. But all that did was to make Christie even more sympathetic to disgruntled GOP moderates. Admitting that even a lifelong, moderate conservative could have his head turned by a blatant charlatan like Trump.

The fleas and ticks hadn’t even started jumping off of Christies newly cooling political corpse yet when a right wing, dark money GOP astroturf group called No Labels started circling like a bunch of turkey vultures. They announced in a public statement that they were so impressed with Christies speech and moral authority that they had contacted him to become their 2024 presidential candidate, and that he could pick his running mate.

As they say in Chicago and New Jersey, F*ckin’ fuggedaboudit! Christie has been steeped in GOP politics his whole life, and if there’s one thing he knows, it’s a dark money GOP operation when he sees it. And there’s no way that Christie throws his hat into the No Labels ring. Here’s why.

The entire GOP, both MAGA as well as the RNC establishment go into 2024 knowing one thing as well as they know that God made little green apples. They know for a fact that there is no way for Trump to increase his vote share going into November. That ship sailed years ago, and Trump has only assured that his rabid base is what he has by continuing to espouse rhetoric that will turn off anybody to the left of Adolf Hitler. With Traitor Tot, what you see is what you get.

So the only way to get El Pendejo Presidente back behind the Resolute Desk is to find a way to depress Biden voters from showing up to vote.

And that way is the dark money astroturf group No Labels. It’s simple. Find a couple of well known, moderate GOP and Democratic national figures like Joe Manchin and Chris Christie, package them together, and give disgruntled Democrats and Independents a moderate alternative, a truly bipartisan ticket to vote for.

It won’t work. For two reasons. First of all, Joe Manchin is a delusional fool, and he’s long outlived his shelf life. The Democratic party is becoming more progressive, and Manchin did nothing but piss them off by following his own personal pro fossil fuel agenda, as well as conservative vetoes on Biden’s progressive legislation. In a general election Manchin won’t siphon off any more moderate Democratic and Independent swing voters than Kyrsten Sinema will in Arizona.

Second, No Labels are a bunch of pompous, arrogant, self serving *ssholes. They have made the grave miscalculation that because Christie is a lifelong GOP operative, he will willingly roll over like a basset hound and take one for the team. There’s just one problem. He already did that in 2016, and he’s regretted it ever since.

In his campaign suspension speech Christie made one thing perfectly clear to his supporters. And that was that his sole personal and political ambition for 2024 was to ensure that Trump never sets foot in the White House again. And I have no doubt that Christie was as serious as a heart attack about that one.

Chris Christie can read a poll and follow national sentiment with the best of them. And he already knows that a No Labels candidacy is nothing more than a political circle jerk to dilute Democratic and Independent votes in order to get Trump elected again.

Chris Christie would rather die in harness. Because Trump not only publicly humiliated him, he committed the cardinal sin of making Christie look like sh*t in front of his own wife. Think back to that post election speech. There’s Christie standing behind Trump, trying to look like a cigar store Indian, and Trump made a snide remark disparaging women. Mary Pat Christie skewered Trump with her eyes, and then turned that lethal glare on Christie. And he just stood there with that wooden look on his face. I don’t even want to think about how many nights Christie spent on the sofa over that one. From what I’ve heard, Mary Pat can be unforgiving when riled up.

So do yourself a favor. Forget about Chris Christie throwing his lot in with the No Labels poltroons to steal the election from Biden. And you might notice that you haven’t heard a word about Manchin leading the No Labels charge since he announced his retirement from the Senate. You can have all the money in the world, but if you can’t find a candidate that anybody wants, then you ain’t got jack sh*t.

  1. Christie got an unfair rap in the press. He sided with Trump, but owned it and tried to right that wrong. It seems the only politician allowed to be “imperfect” is Trump. And who would agree with any politician 100% of the time? Even with Bridgegate, Christie is owed some respect for his sincerity. Of course, anybody running for any office has some level of self-serving. It depends on the ratio to service.

  2. As for No Labels (No Integrity), it’s a fraud. Co-founded by a Trumper. A vote now for any third party candidate isn’t a protest vote. Its a wasted vote for Trump, as with Jill Stein in 2016. Joe Manchin’s interest with this group isn’t surprising. Though your view of his delusional thinking is correct. What is surprising is former MD governor Larry Hogan would associate with this group. Tragic. He took the path Christie has not.

  3. “some people never come clean”…the Eagles
Hey the prodigal son went home, admitted his error, and started down a new path. If Christie continues to help to stop this fascist pig…we need all the allies we can get! I respect him for that.

  4. Christie is authentic . He is loud and brash and has a vindictive streak, but he also had enough sense to keep.his petty revenge small and personal. Bridgegate wss stupid but it wasn’t a huge attack. He is very New Jersey, but he is also.smart and competent.

If Trump had an I.Q. of 120 to 140, he would be Christie.

His wife is Irish Catholic, as I was, raised to be. I may have left the church at 29 and become a,Wiccan, but 17 years of Catholic edit sticks with you. And I can tell you that my husband and I have slept on the couch on occasion. But he kept me as far from.Navy Stupidity as possible and was fine with.me being acidic about it. And if my husband had stood there behind Trump for the good of the GOP, he might still be sleeping on the couch. Fortunately, he is to the far left of center, and smart enough to.know you vote blue no matter who. He is a prsgmatist. He wanted Hillary. There are a,lot of things we disagree on, mostly in the kitchen, but politics is not one of them.
