CNN Communications released a statement defending a recent Trump-Russia piece in the wake of blowback it received, stating that they stand by their reporters and “report when people in power tell lies” and then go on to imply the only fool in the story is Trump himself. Looks like the gloves are OFF!!
CNN reporters Jim Sciutto and Carl Bernstein wrote a piece on July 27th reporting that Michael Cohen said he personally witnessed Donald Trump being told about the 2016 meeting at Trump Tower in which Russians were expected to offer his campaign dirt on Hillary Clinton. However, one of the primary sources, Lanny Davis, Cohen’s attorney backpedaled and told The Washington Post that “he is no longer certain about claims he made to reporters on background and on the record in recent weeks about what Cohen knows about Trump’s awareness of the Russian efforts.”
Enter the Liar-In-Chief who tweeted, “CNN is being torn apart from within based on their being caught in a major lie and refusing to admit the mistake. Sloppy @carlberstein, a man who lives in the past and thinks like a degenerate fool, making up story after story, is being laughed at all over the country! Fake News”
Make no mistake, Mr. President, CNN does not lie. We report the news. And we report when people in power tell lies. CNN stands by our reporting and our reporters. There may be many fools in this story but @carlbernstein is not one of them.

Sciutto and Bernstein stand by their reporting, stating that Davis had not been the only confirming source with knowledge of Cohen’s claims about the president’s knowledge of the meeting.
“CNN stands by its story,” they wrote. “Cohen, unlike Davis, has not publicly addressed what he might have said to friends, associates or reporters about these matters.”
CNN also stands by their reporters. They tweeted, “Make no mistake, Mr. President, CNN does not lie. We report the news. And we report when people in power tell lies. CNN stands by our reporting and our reporters. There may be many fools in this story but @carlberstein is not one of them.” How’s that for a return slap??
Not that Trump’s words are without merit. They can actually become factual with just a few tiny modifications. Just imagine this same tweet being sent out day after day while Trump’s remains in office:
“The GOP is being torn apart from within based on their being caught in a major lie and refusing to admit the mistake. Sloppy @realDonaldTrump, a man who lives in the past and thinks like a degenerate fool, making up story after story, is being laughed at all over the country! Fake News”
