So much for leadership in Texas. Educators in Dallas, soon to be followed by educators in Houston, have decided that they’ve had it with Greg Abbott getting people sick, not to mention dead, so they’re taking matters into their own hands. Today the Dallas Independent School District voted that starting tomorrow, people will be coming to school masked.

Also today Abbott was forced to beg for medical professionals from other states to come in and help out Texas. The hospitals are overwhelmed and it goes without saying that any procedures that can be interpreted as elective, even if they are necessary, such as colonoscopies and the like, are being put off. Texas is in a full blown health crisis, because Abbott has seen his way clear to make a political talking point out a worldwide pandemic.

Meanwhile, his twin in Republican idiocy among governors, Ron DeSantis, is averaging 19,000 new cases per day. Wrap your head around that. That’s the size of a small city, but that has not changed DeSantis’ mind. So again, educators are making their own decisions and ignoring DeSantis absurd mask ban, at least seven school districts in Florida are doing so at this time. As you’ve no doubt heard, DeSantis is threatening to withhold paychecks from school district superintendents and school boards if they defy his edict and implement mask mandates.

It says something fundamental about elected representative government when your titular leaders are the very people that you have to ignore during a public health crisis because they’re the ones getting people killed. That is how it is, though, in Texas and in Florida. May God have mercy on the residents of both states. And may they vote both of these clowns out of office and get some competent representation in place.

  1. They should be charged with depraved indifference crimes: they were told what would happen on this course, and still went with it. And DeathSantis is threatening school officials with loss of pay, even though they’re NOT state employees.

  2. I feel bad for people in those states that voted for Democrats. (And those not able to vote but would vote for Democrats if they could. As for the larger portion who voted these Republican assholes into office (or who surely will vote Republican even if their Jeebus was on the ballot with a D after his name!) I have no fucks to give. If they want sympathy they they can (assuming they can read) look it up in the dictionary. THEY are the ones who put these Governors and GOP controlled legislatures into office. That’s bad enough, but their refusal to even consider voting for Democrats, or at least Republicans who are just greedy assholes but will at least look at the science of all this. As a result, a LOT of people who support science and sanity will get sick and die. I don’t give a rat’s ass about the MAGAts who get sick or die. But the fact they will infect people too young to get the vaccine or those who for various medical reasons can’t get it, AND provide the conditions under which Delta can not just mutate into something even worse but take hold infuriates me!

    • I stopped giving a rat’s ass about these people months ago. TN ain’t as high profile as the clusterf***s in Texas and Florida but it’s in the running on irresponsible encouragement of spreading the Delta variant. I wonder how many of our local students aren’t going to live long enough to see Christmas or get crippled for life because their elders are just like my elders were, superstitious, proud idiots who deserve to be left behind in history’s ashcan.

However, I save the energy my anger would burn up to put towards personal survival. I set a goal for myself when this started: come out of this uninfected and alive so I could tell the story of the ones who did this. That goal remains. And the time comes to tell that story, I shall spare them nothing.

  3. DeSantis lost a first round ruling, in a court case. It’s between the state of Florida and Norwegian Cruise lines. I’m not sure who filed it, but the judge denied a request for temporary restraining order against the cruise lines for requiring proof of vaccination to board their ships. I expect Abbott’s foolishness to fare just about the same, if it goes to court.

    • I am also glad to see that people are wising up and not just sitting there helpless while these clowns destroy everything.

  4. I wonder how this will go in court, abbot has made so many ’emergency’ declarations, border wall, impounding peoples cars etc. I don’t see a court saying schools can do nothing while hitler (oops I mean abbott) can keep this up. I bet the courts will start to side on the health emergency that abbott (oops I mean hitler) cannot enforce his declarations.

  5. “May God have mercy on the residents of both states.”

I’d rather have “God” strike down both Abbott and de Santis–not to mention all the nutjob preachers/televangelists. Doing that would be the best “mercy” that “God” could show to the residents of Texas and Florida.

  6. The virus is going to do a number on school football this year, too.
People, if you were serious about your football, you’d have worn masks last year as well as this, and gotten the vaccine as early as you could.

  7. Both of these would be dictators are going to throw epic tantrums and yell “You have to obey ME!!!” But people are tired of this.
