How John Bolton ever ended up working as Trump’s National Security Director is a lesson in high-level politics in Washington. John Bolton hated Trump from the very beginning and yet accepted the job because it was a powerful White House position. Trump hired Bolton because Trump needed someone who knew what he was talking about, no matter how disgusting his world views may have been. Bolton was one of the few people in the administration qualified to do the job he held.

Yesterday, Bolton said of Trump’s campaign, from CBS News:

“I think it’s going downhill and I think it’ll continue to go downhill,” Bolton said when asked about the trajectory of Trump’s latest presidential run. “I think Republicans, especially after the Nov. 8 elections last year, see that he’s poison to the ticket. He cannot be elected president. If he were the Republican nominee, he would doom our chances to get a majority in the Senate and the House. I don’t think he’s going to be the Republican nominee.”

Well, you knew that Trump couldn’t just let that go. Remember, anyone who says something negative about Trump is the worst/least/awful/terrible, on and on. But Trump has some true genius in his ability to slam someone that Trump hired in his infinite wisdom, the “perfect person.”

This is magnificent:

I found John Bolton to be one of the dumbest people in Government but, I am proud to say, I used him well. A total & unhinged WARMONGER, the red faced “boiler ready to explode” was one of those very stupid voices that got us into the Middle East quicksand. Seven Trillion Dollars, & Millions of deaths later, NOTHING! The good news is that I won big negotiations with this moron by my side. When I brought him into a room with hostile foreign leaders, they thought I was going to war, CONCEEDED ALL!

Genius. Just breathtaking. The man’s narcissism creates a few caverns of pure genius.

So Trump brilliantly hires the dumbest person in government and then uses him like a tool in all those high-level negotiations Trump had with… Did Trump ever sit down and negotiate out anything? In his infinite wisdom, Trump went to North Korea and made Kim stronger than he’s ever been without getting a single concession to drop the nuclear program. He did nothing to hold China back. Russia? Pffft. And he gave the sand monster MBS free run of the Middle East.

What “hostile foreign leader” is Trump referring to?

Ha ha ha ha, no one. It never happened. He just has to insult Bolton as strongly as he can but can’t own hiring someone so “dumb,” so Trump brilliantly used him like a garden hoe in negotiations that never happened.

  2. The first sentence compiles to, “I used a really dumb person really well.”

Yep, that’s what Trump does. Says a lot, doesn’t it?

Dog forbid that we ever have either of them in government again.

  3. “hostile foreign leader” is any one leader of any US allies that didn’t toady up to him ‘sufficiently’.

So that would be all of them.

    • I almost said “NATO” and that NATO knows that Bolton loves/needs them and wouldn’t fear Bolton at all.

It’s a made up fantasy of even being in intense meetings with adversaries.

  4. One of the dumbest people but he used him well? Talk about not only punching yourself in the face but doing so continually without stopping until you knock yourself out.
